Cost Engineer, Specialist in Electronics Parts

Cost Estimation is a strategic function within purchasing at Volvo Car Group. The department to day consists of 30 persons. The competence of the department is to cover the cars total material cost for purchased parts. The group Cost estimation Electrical and Electronics System is today 7 persons. We are responsible for delivering fact based cost analysis on purchased parts within Volvo Cars based on specialist competence. We deliver cost estimates to support sourcing decision, design decisions and to control the tooling cost at the suppliers within the area of the cars electrical system.
As Cost Engineer you work independently and in team. You will be one in a team of specialists with great experience and skills within all different types of materials and manufacturing of parts for Volvo cars. The role as Cost Engineer serves to provide Volvo Car Groups Purchasing with specialist competence regarding fact based cost analysis on purchased parts. In the team of Purchaser, Design Engineer and Cost Engineer you are solely the person to estimate the cost for embedded electronic products or electronic components (based on specification and Bill of material) manufactured at the optimal production set up.
Main responsibilities

• Strive to make sure that Volvo Car Group always gets value for money when purchasing parts, by estimating Should cost (Bill Of Material and Production process) and delivering negotiation arguments to the buyers
• Supporting the buyer in negotiations with suppliers
• Support engineering with cost estimates to improve design decisions with cost perspective
• Estimating the cost for embedded electronic systems

Required qualifications

• A minimum of 10 years engineering experience of Electronic/MEMS components design/engineering and/or Purchase and/or Sales
• Good English skills spoken and written
• Experience from production design, production managing is an advantage
• Experience of cost calculations is meritorious
• Engineering studies on Master or Bachelor level is meritorious
