We at Outokumpu are now looking for a Research & Development Engineer for the Corrosion team within the Global R&D organization. Preferable location of the position is in Avesta, Sweden.
As a valuable team member in an international R&D team, you will participate in R&D projects supporting our R&D must-win battle, creating future products and sustainable production process technologies.
Outokumpu R&D is a global function working together with all Outokumpu sites and functions. We are the provider of leading technical expertise. We enable a sustainable future and create extraordinary value for our partners inside and outside of Outokumpu. The R&D Corrosion department consists of eleven employees located in Sweden and Germany with excellent experience and competence in corrosion and material selection of stainless steel. The department is responsible for maintaining, further developing, and communicating the company's expertise regarding the corrosion properties of our materials in various environments and end-user applications.
Main responsibilities include:
Contributing to cross-functional R&D projects, both internally and in collaboration with universities, research institutes, and external customers and stakeholders.
Performing various corrosion tests, sample preparation, and data analysis.
Providing technical support related to corrosion of stainless steel to operation, sales, and external customers.
Maintaining electrochemical and other corrosion monitoring tools. This includes assessments, improving, and optimizing equipment and measurement strategies.
Following up and developing new technologies and identifying potential development areas in the field of expertise.
Collaborating with other R&D team members and ensuring proper internal and external communication.
Being proactive in proposing and defining projects.
Ensuring safe and efficient work in laboratories and actively participating in improving safety measures at the company.
Represent the company in internal and external assignments such as technology associations, conferences, and supplier and customer visits.
Who are you?
You are an extremely motivated and independently acting personality with an ability to build and manage internal/external networks. You are open-minded and with a great ability to communicate and cooperate with colleagues and stakeholders. You have a deep and genuine interest in research and have hands-on experience with corrosion evaluation and electrochemical measurements, especially related to stainless steel. Your way of working is target oriented and you value safety and quality. You thrive by innovation and lead your work with integrity and cooperation in mind.
Qualifications
B.Sc./M.Sc. in material science, chemistry, or other relevant fields of study.
Hands-on experience in corrosion evaluation, especially with electrochemical measurements.
Sufficient knowledge in the field of electrochemistry and corrosion of stainless steel (and other corrosion resistant alloys).
Working proficiency in English is required. Swedish language proficiency is considered an advantage.
Experience in relevant fields is advantageous.
