Being part of Battery Optimization and Monitoring - Technology
Battery Optimization and Monitoring - Technology is a function within Volvo Energy that works with second life applications of vehicle battery packs, monitoring and data analytics, optimization of remaining useful life, battery safety and new offerings for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Working in very close cooperation with our colleagues from Volvo Group and especially Group Trucks Technology, we create new business offer opportunities as well as value propositions.
What are we looking for in this specific role?
We are looking for a skilled and motivated controls engineer to play a pivotal role in Volvo Energy's venture into repurposing used EV batteries to BESS. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise, hands-on experience, and effective communication skills to bridge the gap between internal development teams and external partners. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems that ensure the safe and efficient operation of our stationary energy storage systems.
Additional responsibilities will include among others:
Drive the realization of project specific requirements related to control strategies, hardware, software and safety, application modes, grid integration as well as all related and relevant systems and processes.
Lead the integration of EV battery pack control systems starting with various system components within stationary energy storage systems and ultimately with power utility systems.
Support in all stages of product development engineering (design, testing, validation etc.) of stationary energy storage systems
Drive the development communication interfaces between battery packs EV battery packs and system control electronics as well as systems for controlling power utilities.
Handle cross-functional coordination between engineering and production teams to ensure smooth integration of control systems. Troubleshooting control issues and facilitating the implementation of necessary changes.

Qualifications likely required to be successful
University degree in electrical engineering, control systems, or a related field.
Several years of experience in designing and implementing communication interfaces involving industrial networking protocols.
Strong background in SCADA systems, understanding their architecture and protocols, to effectively integrate SCADA-based equipment with different communications technologies (e.g CAN).
Experience in working with EV batteries and their integration into stationary energy storage systems is highly advantageous.
Fluent in English, written and spoken
The location for the position will be Gothenburg in Sweden.
