Controls Designer - Diagnostics and Dependability

At RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers over the world, you and your team will create innovative human-centric car technology that makes life less complicated and more enjoyable for people. As CONTROLS DESIGNER - DIAGNOSTICS AND DEPENDABILITY within the group Electric Drives you will lead our on board diagnostics (OBD) and functional safety/dependability design work internally and towards our suppliers. You will work in close cooperation with OBD Engineers, System Safety Engineers, Manufacturing and After Market. The role offers an opportunity for personal development through internal courses in electric drive and power electronics led by technical specialists. You will work and prosper in a team that is skilled, innovative and have high passion for the area.

Electric Drives is part of the new and expansive department Electrical Propulsion Systems (EPS). EPS is responsible to design and deliver electrical machines, inverters, battery systems as well as power supply and charging systems for electrified vehicles. EPS cooperate closely with suppliers from all over the world as well as with academia and research organisations.

Job profile:

• Requirement engineering based on functional and sub-system requirements
• Conduct extended Failure Mode and Effects Analyses as discipline for OBD, dependability robustness and Quality Assurance
• Deliver conceptual and functional descriptions for certifications and negotiations with authorities
• Analyse diagnostic and other control system data from prototype and field vehicles
• Use analysis result to improve design and calibration data
• Develop robust calibration data and rationale for diagnostic functions, fault reactions and diagnostic core
• Document safety cases
• Continuously develop working processes and procedures

Your profile:

• University degree within controls and software engineering or equivalent competence
• Experience of diagnostics and Functional Safety/dependability development
• Structured, data driven and well developed documentation skills
• Cooperative, transparent and good communication skills
• Business oriented
• Good English skills, verbally and in writing
• Competence in Autosar software platform and vector based tools for structured workflow and tool chain is meritorious
• Competence in functional safety workflow and ISO26262 is meritorious
