At Volvo Cars your career is designed around your talents and aspirations so you can reach your full potential. Join us on a journey of a lifetime as we create safety, autonomous driving and electrification technologies of tomorrow.

Volvo Cars are currently moving to in-house development of key software components of the traction battery management system. Traction batteries are complex systems containing hundreds of battery cells together with a thermal conditioning system. In order to operate the battery optimally, it is important to know internal parameters of the battery cells, such as charge level, and available energy and power. Many of these are, however, not directly measurable by sensors and must thus be estimated.

As a Control Designer for Traction Battery Software, you will be responsible for developing control and estimation algorithms for the battery management system, based on requirements from several stakeholders. This is a challenging task that requires strong mathematical and analytical skills. At your disposal are simulation models, rapid prototyping environment in our battery test lab and test vehicles. The work is performed in close cooperation with battery cell experts as well as CAE and SW developers. For the position, experience of model based control and estimation is mandatory.

What will you do?

As Control Designer your main responsibilities will be to design robust control and estimation algorithms for the battery management system within Matlab/Simulink environment. You will work with functional verification and validation against available experimental battery measurement data. You will assist in SW implementation and optimization. You will support system architects and sub function owners during the design phase, and be responsible for the technical documentation.

Do you fit the profile?

We believe that you have at least a MSc. degree within physics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or similar. You have relevant work experience including a strong background in signals & systems, control theory including non-linear filtering with state and parameter estimation techniques, e.g. Kalman filters. Other relevant skills are automatic control and estimation, signal processing, mathematical modelling, system identification and optimization. You are of course fluent in English (written and spoken).

If you also have experience/knowledge in any of the following, we consider it meritorious:

* Lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles
* Volvo Product Development System (VPDS)
* Software design for automotive
* Programming skills in C, C++, Python
* Agile development processes

As a person you need to have the ability to independently plan, manage and monitor your work towards set goals. You need to be committed to developing world class products with high precision. Lastly, you need to have the ability to build trust and show courage.
