About Region Kalmar County and Västervik Hospital
Region Kalmar County is the main healthcare provider in Kalmar County, with approximately 8,000 employees. The region includes 3 hospitals and 28 primary care centers, as well as 18 public dental clinics. Västervik Hospital is a smaller facility within Kalmar County, with around 1,500 employees. We have been voted the best small hospital in Sweden several times over the last few years.
The city of Västervik is a popular summer destination, thanks to its warm and sunny climate and its location by the Baltic Sea. The city offers beautiful landscapes with countryside and archipelago views, as well as shopping streets and a wide range of restaurants. With a large selection of grocery stores, gyms, schools, and preschools, you'll rarely have to go far for anything. If you're looking for a peaceful life away from the hustle and bustle of big cities and prefer the idyllic country life in Sweden, this could be the perfect job opportunity for you in Västervik.
We offer
The ophthalmology department at Västervik Hospital is currently composed of a team of experienced professionals including consultant ophthalmologists, ophthalmology specialist nurses, assistant nurses, and administrative support. As an ophthalmologist, you will work on the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, as well as the treatment of eye injuries in both adults and children. The role also involves performing various eye surgeries, including cataract extraction, lens replacement, strabismus surgery, glaucoma treatments, and oculoplastic surgery. Additionally, we administer Anti-VEGF treatment for macular diseases and utilize lasers for the treatment of glaucoma and diabetes. Our primary focus is outpatient care, although we also provide consultations to other departments within Västervik Hospital.
We are looking for
A registered consultant ophthalmologist or specialist ophthalmologist from the EU/EEA, with proficient English and Swedish language skills (at least at the B2 level).
You are flexible, driven, and capable of seeing the bigger picture. As a valuable team member, you bring a positive attitude and are known for your collaboration skills. Your natural curiosity to learn and desire for professional growth within our specialized department make you an ideal candidate. Our guiding principle is always to put the best interests of the patient first.
Our workplace
The eye clinic at Västervik Hospital receives approximately 23,000 visits annually, representing about ten percent of the hospital's daily operations, which we take great pride in. The clinic consists of three outpatient centers (Västervik, Oskarshamn, and Vimmerby), a surgical unit, a day ward, orthoptic services, and an inpatient unit. It is staffed by around 50 professionals from various disciplines. Our team members choose to work with us at the eye clinic because it is an engaging specialty that offers excellent opportunities for professional development, favorable working hours, and wonderful colleagues. The work is enjoyable due to our efficient teamwork and clear, effective communication. We take great joy in satisfying our patients! Additionally, our benefits, job security with a great employer, and the opportunity to learn from one another within the team make our workplace highly attractive.
