Alfa Laval develops products and runs strategic product activities at a number of Business Centres. The Business Centre for Separation Systems in Tumba is responsible for Research, Product Development, Project Management, Product Management and Product Support. Our main goal is to increase the profitability of our separation business.
The Department of Technology has highly qualified staff, and is involved in all development aspects of separators, through Concept Development, Application Development, and core technology groups Fluid Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Machine Dynamics.
With this position you will take an active role in the pre-development of future separators, as well contributing to improvements on the existing range of separators.
The Concept Development Group works with innovation and evaluation of ideas in concepts activities. This involves thinking, discussing, design, testing and evaluation, often in an iterative manner.
A successful concept activity completion is usually preceded by a lot of parallel testing and improving (knowledge gap filling and risk reduction) before handing over tested hardware and design documentation to NPD (machine launch projects).
The group has internal resources to handle many activities themselves, but cooperation with other internal units are key (development groups, application group, core technology groups, test group, purchase, product management, etc.) for successful choice and hand-over of concepts.
Similarly, much cooperation and concept development take place with external customers and sub-suppliers.
Main Tasks and responsibilities
• To take part in the innovation of separators, its components and processes, and transfer that into functioning viable concepts
• To evaluate ideas in early prototype testing.
• To build up knowledge in strategic technology areas
The work involves having an innovative mind, to see a technical solution to a problem encountered in old machines or a way to test a new idea, but also to test separator components in a safe and assured routine.
