The successful applicant will join an ambitious group of scientists with statistical, computational, pharmacological, and medical expertise.
We are the World Health Organisation's Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring. We maintain and analyze the world's largest collection of reports of suspected adverse drug reactions, VigiBase. One of our main tasks is to detect and describe patient safety or public health issues associated with the unwanted effects of medicinal products. The Research department leads UMC's efforts to develop improved methods for safety surveillance and establish best practice in the analysis of observational medical data. We work with a variety of data sources, including collections of electronic health records, and are active participants of high-profile international research projects.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre is an independent centre of excellence and offers a stimulating, international working environment with strong research focus. We publish our work in leading computational, mathematical, and medical journals.
Main accountabilities
• Lead the development and evaluation of novel statistical or computational methods for analyzing observational medical data
• Participate in scientific investigations of suspected adverse reactions to medicines
• Participate in the implementation of proof of concept data analysis applications
• Provide expert statistical or computational advice to internal and external collaborators
• Contribute to international collaborative projects in pharmacovigilance on UMC's behalf
• Lead scientific publication of research results
• Present research results internally and externally
Required competence
• Master's degree in Computational sciences, Engineering, or Mathematical statistics
• At least 5 years professional experience of data analysis
• Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Data mining, Predictive models, Medical informatics, Pharmacovigilance, Epidemiology, Natural Language Processing, Causal inference
• Data management (SQL) skills
• Skills in one or more programming languages
• Excellent oral and written presentation skills
• English - written and verbal fluency
Desired competence:
• PhD or Licentiate degree in Computational sciences or Mathematical statistics
• Experience of analyzing medical and/or observational data
• Project management skills and experience
• Advanced programming skills
• Swedish - written and verbal
