Our team has a special focus on new technology development and application within virtual chemistry and virtual screening. As part of the Discovery Sciences department, you will be surrounded by colleagues from a great variety of expert fields. You will join a company constantly thriving for innovation, which is enabled by world-class scientists from different educational and cultural backgrounds.
Our department provides scientific support to early drug discovery across the global portfolio. We are responsible for the discovery of novel chemical hits in three principal areas: High-throughput screening, DNA-encoded libraries and Virtual Screening - including automated chemistry and AI/machine learning.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will develop, apply and lead technology development and science in the field of Virtual Screening and Virtual Chemistry. You will have a demonstrable impact on projects through the development of tools that improve the hit identification and hit creation capabilities of computational and medicinal chemists. Key elements of the role include the development and exploitation of novel computational and cheminformatics technology for use by medicinal and computational chemists.
* Devise, champion and develop the scientific area of Virtual Screening and Virtual Chemistry that aligns with the department mission
* Act as an authority in a particular scientific area and lead to make significant contributions to the practical delivery of project goals
* Coach and mentor more junior colleagues by advising and challenging them, but also by providing expert advice and interpretation of complex data
* Provides disciplinary scientific leadership and represent the department at interdisciplinary meetings internally as well as externally
Essential Requirements
You are expected to possess excellent knowledge of modern computational chemistry and computer science used in drug discovery projects. Furthermore, have the ability to identify new opportunities to impact and influence also outside own project responsibilities.
* PhD in Computational Chemistry with several years of experience combined with profound technical skills like computer programming and systems design or
* Advanced degree in Computer Sciences with demonstrated knowledge and experiences in a relevant area of science, e.g. chemistry, physics or biology
* Demonstrated development experience within a variety of programming languages, tools and technologies (e.g., Java, C++, Python/Ruby/Perl, SQL or AWS)
* Experience from a research-based scientific computing environment
* Experience of developing and managing relationships with 3rd party collaborators and software providers
* Ability to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary research matrix environment, providing scientific leadership and insights
Desirable Requirements
* Deep understanding of the drug discovery process within discovery
* Deep understanding of how computational methods contribute to and influence projects
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to drive decisions, inspire change and resolve conflicts effectively
* Strong time management and multitasking skills
* Ability to determine pragmatic technical solutions to complex business problems
