The Arena
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Computational Biologist to join the new cross-functional computational chemistry / computational biology team for Respiratory & Inflammation research.
We are bringing together the computational sciences to a single team to support our Respiratory & Inflammationdrug discovery projects across Chemistry, Biology and Translational science. Working at the intersect of disciplines the role offers a distinctive opportunity to refocus the research to address the fundamental research challenges at the intersect of chemistry, mechanistic biology and pharmacology.
The Role
As a Computational Biologist you will support project teams with analysis and modelling of biological networks to better understand disease biology and model translation. You will work with drug discovery projects to drive exploitation of 'omics and complex assay data. As keen team-player you will work with scientists in other disciplines to exploit pre-clinical and clinical data in translational research. You will be able to build upon a prominent publication and external speaking record to independently define and lead Computational Biology work within projects, introduce novel approaches and establish a network of external collaborations.
Minimum Requirements
A Ph. D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline with a broad understanding of human biology and drug discovery. Experience with translational science and inflammatory biology. A thorough understanding of Discovery science and how to contribute to and influences project decisions through the use of computational biology including bioinformatics and statistical analysis. Knowledge of Chemistry / Cheminformatics is an asset.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with documented programming experience (Matlab, R, Perl, and Python). Knowledge and experience using relational databases (SQL) and semantic integration of biological facts. Knowledge and experience with text-mining tools desired.
Experienced in the integration of in silico biology and experimental data - network biology (e.g. Textmining, IPA, GeneGo/MetaMiner, Cytoscape and other public resources)
Experience in modeling of biological processes and predicting functional outcomes including with integration of clinical and pre-clinical data. Experience in collation and analysis of high volume / high complexity data.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in cross-disciplinary teams with a track-record of establishing and deliver innovative collaborations.
