Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is searching for a skilled writer-editor to join our dynamic Global Communications team. As a Communications Officer, you will work with internal and external stakeholders on a wide range of projects, but your main role will be as editor of UMC's Uppsala Reports magazine and website, our leading channel for reporting on pharmacovigilance and global medicines safety. This is a full-time position based in the heart of Uppsala, Sweden. It may be filled before the close of applications, so please apply as soon as possible.

Your role
As a Communications Officer at UMC, you will work within the Global Communications team to create, commission, edit, and publish content on a broad range of internal and external projects. In particular, you will:

- Coordinate all editorial aspects of the Uppsala Reports magazine and website, including commissioning, writing, and editing articles; supervising layout, design, and publication of the magazine; publishing and maintaining the website; and producing a regular email newsletter to promote readership
- Create and edit content for UMC's website, brochures, and other marketing materials
- Work with other members of the team to help plan and produce content for UMC's social media channels
- Write, edit, and publish occasional content on UMC's staff intranet
- Edit and proofread documents and presentations for staff in other teams at UMC

UMC's Global Communications team currently has seven members, with diverse skill sets and backgrounds. We are a tight unit that values collaboration between team members. Beyond your core responsibilities, and depending on your own talents and interests, you may also get the opportunity to contribute to video, photographic, and animation projects; podcasts; presentations; and more.
Ideally, you are either a journalism or communications graduate who understands and learns quickly about the life sciences, or a life sciences graduate with a high-level set of communications skills.

You're creative, curious, and collaborative. You care about details. You enjoy showing initiative, but you also display good judgment and maturity when dealing with potentially sensitive topics.

Required qualifications

- At least a bachelors' degree in a relevant field (such as the life sciences, communications, or journalism)
- Fluency and flair in written English, including experience of editing and proofreading to a defined house style
- The capacity to quickly acquire a working understanding of pharmacovigilance
- Experience with or understanding of content management systems for web publishing
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to create content on a deadline

Other helpful skills and experience

- Skills in or familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications
- Experience using SharePoint and Microsoft productivity applications
- Presentation skills
- Experience working in diverse, international organisations, especially in the non-profit sector

Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a centre for international service and scientific research in the field of pharmacovigilance. We are the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring, and manage the technical and operational aspects of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring since 1978.

As an independent, non-profit foundation, we support the World Health Organization, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders who share our vision of advancing medicines safety. Through research and development of new scientific methods, we explore the benefits and harms of medicines for patients, and offer products and services used by health authorities and the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.
