The Position

At Avalanche Studios Group, we are looking for a Combat Designer to join our team to work on our upcoming AAA title (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reuri4lT7jI) - a co-op smuggler's paradise game set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan. Contraband is a brand-new IP published by Xbox Game Studios. Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally published, AAA open-world games like the Just Cause series, Mad Max and Rage 2.The Position

At Avalanche Studios Group, we are looking for a Combat Designer to join our team to work on our upcoming AAA title Contraband - a co-op smuggler's paradise game set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan. Contraband is a brand-new IP published by Xbox Game Studios. Avalanche Studios is the division dedicated to ambitious, externally published, AAA open-world games like the Just Cause series, Mad Max and Rage 2.

As the Combat Designer, you will be a key part of enhancing the character and combat efforts, you will primarily design and implement player combat and AI behaviors using our in-house scripting language and tools. Other tasks include participating in design meetings and discussions, documenting features, and game balancing. Your approach will also be collaborative, working closely with other team members of all disciplines to constantly improve the quality of the game experience with a keen focus on elevating the player perspective.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of working experience as a designer or in other comparable positions within the games industry
• Familiarity with designing and creating satisfying combat challenges and engaging player combat experiences
• Experience from at least one released AAA title containing combat elements
• Scripting experience/knowledge (Python, LUA or equal)

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working with game editors such as UnrealEd/Hammer
• Understanding of programming
• Ability to analyze and understand how existing games are constructed
• Strong understanding of game design fundamentals
• Player input and accessibility through control schemes and mechanics
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Able to successfully produce results individually and as part of a team
• Understands the importance of keeping deadlines, and working towards both high-level vision and specific goals
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
