Specifically, it is the short-range, inductively coupled WPT system that has been implemented in the Qi Specification, which is the dominant global standard for wireless charging of smartphones. Central to an inductively coupled WPT system are the transmitter and receiver coils that are electromagnetically coupled for the transfer of electrical power. Though the physical mechanisms behind this form of power transfer is well understood, there remain interesting and practically important research questions. One such question concerns the quality of the coils used, as "good coils" can play a major role in providing efficient WPT. In this context, the project seeks to answer the question: "What defines a good coil?" To achieve this, it should find new ways to characterize coils by their overall WPT efficiency and stability to large signal variations, over the frequency range of interest. Design parameters of interest include the structural and materials used (e.g., Litz wire, ferrites and lumped capacitor). Additional considerations in this characterization may include space constraint and possible coil misalignment.Qualifications and Project Execution: The candidate should have a good background in basic electromagnetics and some experience in performing experimental work involving electrical measurements. The project will be performed at the nok9 head office in Malmö, where relevant expertise and equipment are available. TDK will be involved in the project execution. The project is expected to last 6 months. The selected candidate will be offered a fixed-term employment (6 months) as a research engineer at nok9 for the duration of the work project. The project is available immediately. We are seeking a recent graduate preferably holding a Master's degree or a Master student from EU countries who are able to obtain permission from their home universities to perform their Master's project jointly with TDK and nok9 in Sweden. About Usnok9 AB is the test equipment supplier for the Qi Standard/Specification used for wireless charging of hundreds of millions of smartphones. Qi is developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), with membership of over 650 companies, including large corporations like Google, Apple, Huawei, Samsung and Philips. . TDK Corporation (TDK????) is a large Japanese multinational electronics company with over 100,000 employees worldwide. It manufactures electronic materials, electronic components, and recording and data-storage media.
