Type of employment: full time
Duration of employment: 1 year. Expected start date: Q4 2023
About FBHI and the position of Clinical Research Coordinator
The Clinical Research Coordinator will execute tasks related to a multinational project on risk reduction and prevention of dementia in older adults. FBHI 's main work model is based on the FINGER trial (Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability), the first multidomain preventive intervention showing cognitive benefits in older adults at-risk of dementia. The FINGER model leverages on the amelioration of modifiable factors affecting brain health in late-life, including lifestyle-related and vascular/metabolic factors. The FINGER model is being adapted and tested in 60 countries, within the World-Wide FINGERS network, led by FBHI. Since the COVID-19 pandemic impacted factors relevant to brain health globally, FBHI is also running a global initiative (WW-FINGERS-SARS-CoV2-survey, under the aegis of the World Health Organization) to monitor the impact of the pandemic on dementia risk, in order to optimize the FINGER model.
Tasks related to the position:
• The project includes the use of multinational data on older adults at risk of dementia. Thus, the candidate is expected to support the execution of data sharing agreements as needed for the performance of research plans.
• Execute dataset preparation and data analysis from national and multinational datasets focused on risk measures and risk reduction of late life cognitive decline and dementia.
• Support the development of implementation plans of the FINGER model, with a focus on culturally diverse populations.
• Coordination of activities related to the project plan, based on collaboration with multinational teams, including preparation of scientific articles and scientific reports. This also implies the support of communication with research sites and tracking of activities to ensure projects are progressing according to plans and timelines.
• Attendance at international scientific conferences in the field of dementia is expected. Travelling is expected to be about 15% of work time.
• The position involves collaboration with several other countries in different time zones, which implies meetings outside normal Swedish office hours. Thus, flexibility in terms of working time is required.
The candidate must have:
• A background in medicine, preferably an MD degree and in addition a master's degree in public health sciences, with extensive knowledge of intervention studies for public health promotion.
• A demonstratable experience with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, specifically monitoring of risk profiles in older populations.
• Experience with quantitative data analysis, and good ability in the use of STATA statistical software.
• Excellent English language skills in terms of oral and written communication, with demonstrable experience of scientific writing in English.
• Excellent and proven ability to interact with other researchers in multidisciplinary and multinational teams.
• Since many countries within the WW-FINGERS network have Spanish as official language, very good Spanish language skills are also a requirement for the position.
