We are now looking for a CTO who will be a true business partner by ensuring that the leadership team in News Media has a thorough understanding of technological opportunities and possible impact on business decisions. The CTO will align the technology strategy with News Media's mission and goals and respond with agility to keep ahead of rapidly changing business models and industry disruptors.The position is part of the News Media Management team and reports to EVP News Media.
The CTO will contribute to modern technology being utilized in the best way for the whole value chain, and make sure that News Media invests in the right and relevant solutions optimizing the return on investment in the short and long term. You should be a strategic thinker and have a strong ability to get things done.
Key responsibilities
The CTO will be responsible for overall technology strategy and architecture in all of News Media, which includes;
- Ensure an efficient and coordinated approach to News Media wide initiatives which impacts or utilizes technology.
- Ensure an efficient and coordinated interface with technology functions in Schibsted Group and better coordination on cost optimisation across business areas in News Media.
- Proactive evaluation of system technology for use in the value chain and balance buy vs. build in alignment with overall tech strategy
- Responsible for ensuring sufficient standardisation on developer tools & services, operations, physical and cloud infrastructure
- Responsible for providing a life cycle view on News Media's system portfolio (evaluating technical debt, system sunsetting, etc), in collaboration with the business area tech leaders.
The CTO will also directly manage the Editorial Technology organisation, and will;
- Partner with the CPO in ensuring great product offerings, and further develop platforms and applications to meet business and end-user needs.
- Ensure strong stakeholder alignment to help navigate a complex legacy environment
Further, a strong culture is crucial for our success and our people are the backbone of this. The CTO will;
- Be responsible for development of a common tech culture in News Media, involving and engaging tech leaders for the business areas in this important work.
- Represent News Media in the CTO forum, to contribute to the overall tech culture development and alignment across Schibsted.

Experience / Qualifications
- Strategic and commercial acumen to challenge, translate and drive decisions across News Media. The vision and market connectivity to bring the outside in perspectives.
- Experience of managing a large scale tech organisation
- Experience in leading through change and building culture is a great asset in this role
- Curious and future-oriented, interested in technology and trends
- Interest in the media industry
- Experience manoeuvring in complex organizations setup
- Good understanding of Product Management
- Strong leadership abilities, developing and inspiring other senior leaders

Product & Tech is responsible for product development in News Media. The unit consists of product managers, software engineers, UX experts, and user researchers. A big part of our work is developing joint technology platforms for Schibsted's news brands. These include platforms for content production and distribution, digital subscriptions, and advertising. Most of our teams work distributed, with colleagues in Oslo, Stockholm, Krakow, Gdansk, Bergen, and Stavanger.
