THE ROLE
Assuming responsibility for all intellectual property matters arising within Volvo Cars, the Chief IP Counsel will also be responsible for leading a team of IP professionals based at the Group's headquarters in Gothenburg. The Chief IP Counsel will be a key member of the GL&CG management team, handling IP matters independently, and assuming full responsibility in relation to top management, as well as other relevant managers throughout the business, and occasionally in relation to the Board of Directors. The individual will report directly to the General Counsel & SVP Group Legal & Corporate Governance. Responsibilities will also include, inter alia:
* Developing and maintaining IP strategy;
* Creation and maintenance of a business relevant IP portfolio;
* Document and contract drafting;
* Negotiations with external parties, litigation and supervision of external advisors in matters requiring external specialist support;
* Providing internal IP training at higher level across the organisation;
* Independently handling all HR, forecasting and business planning matters pursuant to a management position;
* Being actively engaged in leading and driving the development of the organisation, and driving change therein.
THE CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will preferably possess:
* An education to MSc level or beyond in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or a related field;
* Full qualification as a European or US Patent Attorney;
* Over a decade of experience as an IP professional either in-house or at a law firm, IP private practice;
* Experience in a senior management role and in working effectively in a global team;
* Experience of driving and leading global business change;
* Fluency in English.
