The role reports into San Francisco based Chief Digital Officer Atif Rafiq, who in turn reports to the CEO. Atif is in the process of building his team and the Chief Data Architect will play a critical role on this transformation journey. Given the pace of change, it is critical the right candidate for this role is comfortable with navigating ambiguity and therefore understands how to engage with emotional intelligence and drive.
Key Accountabilities:
* Review, develop and deliver the vision for the future-state technology stack to enable Volvo's business process and IT development portfolio closely aligned to business goals
* Anchor the plan with the business, and evangelise the mission across the various stakeholders as well as hold them accountable against a plan of action
* Re-appraise existing (and legacy) enterprise architecture, 'own it' and assess fit for purpose
* Identify and make recommendations regarding new technologies, tools and techniques (virtual, cloud computing, etc.) that would benefit the company and support the business strategy
* Coach, build and mentor a high performing team
* Develop and manage strategic third party and vendor partner relationships

Candidates will also be able to inspire and nurture talent; be it technical, strategic or other; internal and external. They will lead an organisation that is excited, not daunted, by change.
Collaboration and Influencing as demonstrated by his/her ability to build meaningful relationships in a large enterprise across functions, levels and geographic borders. S/he must be skilled in communicating complex ideas to a diverse audience based upon a sound understanding of technology and its application to achieve business objectives.
Leadership that is able to attract and develop a highly skilled team. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility in style to bring out the best in people with different backgrounds and working styles, while unifying them in purpose, role clarity, and expectations related to deliverables. They must have a passion for the mandate and instill that passion within his/her team while also promoting the highest standards of ethics and compliance.
Volvo Cars is looking for an individual who will bring superb leadership in an international, dynamic context. Therefore, the ideal candidate is fully fluent in English and will possess a deep understanding and appreciation for other cultures and will likely have lived in multiple countries. The individual also needs to have an entrepreneurial mind-set and be able to think "outside the box" to fit into the non-hierarchical Volvo Cars organization.
