For future assignments within the pharmaceutical industry we are now looking for Analytical chemists and Material chemists. We are looking for candidates that are newly graduated as well as experienced scientists. You should have a strong interest in laboratory work and a life science degree at University level.
A position as Analytical Chemist is primarily laboratory based, where analytical science expertise in combination with theoretical and technical knowledge in organic and physical chemistry is a must. You should have knowledge of the analytical area such as method development, method validation, stability testing, and setting specifications. Duties may include:
• Develop and validate appropriate test methodology and specifications for drug products.
• Apply techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, MS and NMR to provide input into the assessment of the developability of candidate drugs, and to the release of formulations and drug substances for use in pre-clinical studies.
• Apply techniques such as HPLC/UPLC, MS and NMR in the GMP release testing of formulations for use in clinical studies.
• Apply detailed scientific knowledge and maintain awareness of the new developments in the area of analytical science.
• Present information for discussion in project teams, within the function and/or across other functions.
• Analyses of oligonucleotides, mRNA, peptides or lipids using LC-MS/MS, HPLC/UPLC and electrophoretic methods. Determine concentrations and purity, characterize stability and degradation of nucleotides, the formulated product and the individual excipients in the formulations.
• Collaborate with other analytical chemists and formulation scientists in project teams to drive projects and technologies forward.
As a Material Scientist you will provide input in the area of material characterization during the formulation development of oral drug products, e.g. characterization of solid state or powder properties. You will influence the solid state properties of new drug substances, you will plan and perform experiments to crystallize and characterize salts and polymorphs and assess the solid state properties by using a wide range of different techniques.
We are looking for a skilled experimentalist who enjoys being in the lab and working in a multi skilled team, collaborating closely with analysts, formulators and chemists. A combination of theoretical and technical expertise in material science is a must together with a good understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes. Skills of importance for this role are:
• A good understanding of solid state properties, choice of solid state form and associated phase transitions of drug substance, and how these link to formulation stability and processability. A good knowledge of techniques to characterize this e.g. XRPD, DSC, GVS, TGA and vibrational spectroscopy.
• A knowledge of salt- and polymorph screening and crystallization process development
• A knowledge of excipients and the solid state of excipients used for pharmaceuticals.
• Knowledge of imaging techniques, eg SEM and optical microscopy.
• An understanding of powders, including analysis techniques for determining physical properties, eg particle size and particle size distribution, shape, density and powder rheology.
Please clearly specify in your application which area your qualifications apply to and which techniques you have practical experience from.
Minimum Requirements
• Scientific degree in e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Analytical chemistry or Physics with relevant skills.
• Experience in dealing with technical analytical problems and in resolving complex analytical issues
• Strong team working skills and ability to work in a multi-discipline environment
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Good communication skills coupled with the ability to work to tight timelines
• Ability to demonstrate drive and energy to deliver results and projects
• Flexible and able to respond to changing business needs
Preferred experience/requirements
• Work experience from a GLP/GMP environment
• Experience from a pharmaceutical development organization
