Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment (www.slu.se/aquatic-sciences) is a competence centre for applied environmental science, with a national responsibility for assessing the condition of Swedish surface waters with respect to water chemistry, pollution and aquatic biota. The department has some 100 employees. The research focuses on geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, as well as on aquatic ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The department is part of a Soil-Water-Environment cluster, a recently established competence center for landscape-level processes that also includes the Departments of 'Soil and Environment' and 'Energy and Technology'. The breadth of expertise among the 300 members in combination with a well-equipped infrastructure creates a unique platform for high quality research as well as environmental monitoring and assessment.

The Department is divided into three sections (Ecology, Geochemistry and Organic Environmental Chemistry), each of which has an associated research laboratory. The laboratory for Organic Environmental Chemistry analyses organic micropollutants at trace levels in different environmental matrices and is equipped with a number of mass spectrometry instruments, e.g., LC-MS/MS, LC/GC-HRMS and GC-MS/MS. We are now looking for a chemist that can manage our research laboratory for Organic Environmental Chemistry.

You are also expected to participate in practical supervision of guest researchers and students at different levels.

Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate with a master degree in chemistry or a doctorate in environmental chemistry / analytical chemistry or equivalent. Particular emphasis will be placed on experience of and skills in trace analysis using the above mentioned techniques (mainly LC-MS/MS) and basic service and maintenance work on analytical instruments. Particular emphasis will also be placed on personal qualities. You need to be skilled in organizing the work, working independently and prioritizing among many tasks.
