www.scania.com The transmission development department at Scania in Södertälje develops the transmission components of the future. The Analysis & Calculation group, consisting of 10 employees, is responsible for all types of simulations concerning gearbox performance. This includes the simulation of the internal flow for all transmission components. In most cases, this involves a multiphase flow, as you need to handle the mixture of oil and air. Relevant components are gearboxes, electric motors for hybrid systems and hydraulic retarders, which provide auxiliary braking. Using our CFD analyses, we want to be able to assess temperature, lubrication, efficiency, cooling and acoustic emissions. We are currently looking for someone with analytical abilities and a significant interest in CFD in terms of both theory and application and who wants to be involved in driving this development together with experienced colleagues working on strength, dynamics and acoustics.
Your duties
Success in your role requires deep understanding of dynamic phenomena. This may be to ensure lubrication of different parts in a transmission system, ensure cooling of electric motors or evaluate brake performance for a hydraulic retarder. Assignments such as these are the basis for a large part of our development work. You will be part of a broad network that spans multiple departments within the group. An important aspect of this job is to convey results to our customers, who are often specialists, in a structured way. You will see your results used in both the development of future products and in response to issues regarding the demands on existing products.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with at least a degree in engineering who has a significant interest in fluid mechanics and simulation. Postgraduate research experience within relevant fields would be an advantage. A suitable background is at least 5 years' proven experience of working within CFD. If you have also worked with one of our main tools Star CCM+, Fluent or Openfoam, this would also be an advantage. However, experience of similar software is a requirement. Knowledge of transmissions is also an advantage, but not a requirement. It is imperative that you are proficient in both written and spoken English at the very least, but preferably also in Swedish.
We value a positive and humble attitude, a keen interest in learning new things, analytical thinking, accuracy and structure, as well as the ability to create and maintain contacts that span group boundaries.
