Modis Life Science is now looking for a Research Scientist to AstraZeneca in Gothenburg. This is a consultancy position for 4 months, planned to start in March 2019.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join our Cell Bank team in Gothenburg for 4 months. The Cell Bank, part of Discovery Sciences, is a research unit key to the functioning of a large part of Discovery R&D, through storage and supply of stocks of all mammalian cell lines used within AZ. The unit works closely with a range of customers across many AZ sites, through the purchasing of all new cell lines, provision of cell lines in culture, generation of cell banks, cryopreservation, storage and revival of banks, as well as supply of cells to local customers, and shipments to other sites.
This role will be focused on cell banking. The work involves revival of cell banks, mammalian cell culture of cell lines and primary cells, generation of cell banks and cryopreservation. It also includes database registration, tracking and maintenance of cells, supply of cells to local customers, and shipments to other sites.
The candidate will be primarily laboratory-based, however at times will be required to work flexibly across the team to support other tasks.
Key Tasks
• To work with AZ Research Scientists across disciplines, to culture and cryopreserve mammalian cell lines
• To work with local and global GCB customers to provide cell lines from the cell bank.
• To enter data and maintain GCB database to ensure accurate sample tracking.
• To upload new data generated on database.
Skills, knowledge & competencies
• Educated to degree level in a biology related subject
• Cell Biology experience is essential
• Experience of techniques including mammalian cell culture
• Computer literate: articulate, confident and competent in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel with experience of using databases, analytical packages and presenting data using standard techniques e.g. PowerPoint, spreadsheets, computerised reports etc
• Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised to deadlines, planning, organising and setting priorities for own work showing well developed organisational and time management skills
• Outstanding communication skills on all levels, problem solving capabilities and ability to work as a team member
• Ability to deal promptly, effectively and courteously with requests for information and to use initiative in solving problems and responding to queries ensuring compliance with standard procedures and practices
• Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
• Able to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovation
• Cryogenic awareness desirable
• Ability to support a project manager and deliver to agreed deadlines.
