At Manufacturing Engineering BIW, you will be a key contributor to the next generation outstanding luxury cars from Volvo. Together with other engineers around the world, you and your team will create innovative manufacturing processes that makes the manufacturing of car bodies more efficient. Within Manufacturing we have a team that develops the future manufacturing processes for our future EV carsOur purpose is to develop and secure the best available techniques, develop the new manufacturing processes, develop standards and work in close collaboration with our colleagues at R&D. Strategic work, cost estimations, and manufacturability analysis of casted components is a major part of our daily work. In some cases, we also set up learning sessions. We work closely together with all our customers, such as R&D, manufacturing shops worldwide and procurement.
You will be a part of a highly skilled team with many different competencies. We have a great team spirit, where everyone is included and dedicated to securing our product and we work with an excellent quality and support.
The work location for the position is in Gothenburg.
What you will do:
As a Casting Engineer you will be responsible for cost estimations for inhouse tooling and casting needs including foundry production set-up and production layouts. You will ensure competence, working methods and methods within the casting engineering field. You will work with the design team from the beginning of the design and provide insight into what will be possible with the restrictions of the materials, tools and equipment they have to work with.
The casting engineer provides expertise on design for manufacturing of casted parts giving feedback to the R&D engineers. The position diagnoses/implements corrective actions for casting defects, participates in product cost and quality improvement.
Besides the scope of work mentioned above, you will also work with:
* Joining of casted components towards steel sheets and extruded parts.
* Material selection and have knowledge of aluminum alloys.
* Feasibility judgements on CAD design.

To be successful in this role it is essential that you have:
* Experience from Casting simulation using the software Novacast and the ability to train team members in this tool.
* Experience from foundry production set-up.
* Several years of experience from production environment of casted components.

To be successful and to thrive in this position we believe you have a huge interest in technology and excellent skills in English, both written and spoken. You also have good knowledge of PC environment.
It is highly meritorious if you have knowledge from automotive industry.
