Calibration Engineer Diesel Combustion Control, Engine Controls System

The section Engine Controls & Calibration are responsible for function development, calibration and validation of engine control in Volvo Car Groups petrol and diesel engines. The section consists of around 100 persons working in the engine dynos, vehicle dynos, in vehicles and some with simulations. Many of the section staff also participates in expeditions to get the right atmospheric conditions for their job.

As an Calibration Engineer within the group Diesel Combustion & Engine out Emissions you are responsible for calibration and development of functionality for the Engine Management System (EMS) including Combustion Control of normal mode operation, SCR heating and Torque models.

Your work has great impact on the customer experience regarding fuel consumption, combustion sound, response and performance. You will be an important contributor to meet legal demands on emissions. You will work closely with experienced engineers in a highly dedicated team but have a clear area of responsibility. Your work will be divided between the office, test cell application, and vehicle testing. To be able to test the vehicles in different environments this position requires travel, usually abroad a couple of times every year. We especially welcome female applicants.

Main responsibilities

• Calibration of Diesel combustion control, emissions, performance and heat control of exhaust after treatment systems such as DOC/LNT and SCR.
• Torque model calibration.
• Propose functional changes within mentioned areas for the Engine Management System.
• Develop methods and tools for the calibration work.
• Participate in cross functional teams with for example: Engine Engineering, Vehicle Engineering and Powertrain Installation.
• Plan and execute engine tests in engine dyno, vehicle dyno, vehicle tests and participate during vehicle expeditions to verify and perform climate corrections on Your calibration.

Required qualifications

• B.Sc or M.Sc in Engineering, applied physics or engineer with experience from the area mentioned above.
• Good knowledge of English (spoken and written).
• Drivers license (B) is a requirement due to actual field expeditions in Sweden and abroad.
• Meritorious is experience from software development, embedded systems in particular.
• Meritorious is experience from different software such as: INCA, Matlab, Simulink, CAMEO or ASCMO.
• Meritorious is experience from combustion engines.

• Interested in engines and combustion.
• Curious with a very good analytical ability.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• A doer with focus on delivery.
