The section Engine Controls & Calibration is responsible for function development, calibration and validation of engine control in Volvo Car Groups petrol and diesel engines. The section has approximately 100 employees working both in the engine rigs, in vehicles and some with simulations. Many of the section staff also participates in expeditions to test and verify in different conditions such as cold climate, hot climate and high altitude. This to get the right atmospheric conditions for their job.
As a Calibration Engineer within the group Vehicle Application you are responsible for the functional development and calibration of temperature estimation functions in order to be able to protect hardware against overheating. In addition to this you will also be apart in govern actuators within Thermal management in order to reduce friction and thereby reducing CO2 emissions. You will work closely with experienced engineers in a team but have a clear area of responsibility. Your work will be divided between the office, test cell application, and vehicle testing. To be able to test the vehicle in different environments this position requires travel, usually abroad, approximately four times per year. Other responsibilities the group has is, idle speed governing for diesel engines, governing of oil/fuel pressure in both diesel and petrol engines and VVT (Variable Valve Timing) control for petrol engines.
Main responsibilities
• Develop calibration of thermal management and heat protection functions
• Propose functional changes within mentioned areas
• Ensure verification of those functions within engine projects
• Report status of work to projects
Required qualifications
• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Engineering or engineer with experience from engine control and calibration area
• Driver's license (B) is a requirement due to actual field expeditions in Sweden and abroad
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Experience from software such as INCA, Matlab, Simulink is meritorious
• Experience from software development is meritorious
Personal qualities
• Technically interested with a problem solving mindset
• Communicative and socially open minded
• Positive attitude
• Knowledge of engines or interest in learning about engines
• Ability to travel
