Let's create the future together.
At Volvo Cars, we believe that being curious and truly committed to understanding people is the key to future success. We are people who care about other people, working together to create new technologies and innovations for safe, sustainable and convenient mobility. Want to join us?

The department Analysis and Verification, organized within Propulsion Power Systems, supports the engine development organization with testing and simulations in order to verify the functionality and durability of the combustion engines and e-machines as well as in analyzing designs in the ongoing development process.

The group Engine CAE - Fluids contributes with advanced simulations to the development of Volvo Car propulsion systems. We perform physically based simulations of all fluid related aspects of the engine and other parts of the propulsion system. Our vision is to be closely involved in the development process providing state of the art fluid dynamical simulations to obtain class-leading propulsion. We also strive to support other systems and attributes within Volvo Cars with propulsion related simulations.

We are now looking for a CAE Engineer to work with 1D Propulsion System Simulations!

The team consists of 14 employees. Five of these are dedicated to gas exchange and 1D simulations, 8 to 3D CFD and 1 person to Engine Thermal Management. Each individual has his or her own specific area(s) of responsibility. The team is young and dynamic with a good mix of people with different backgrounds. The group works as a shared service for the ART's and consists of two agile teams, one for 1D- and one for 3D-simulations.

What you'll do
As CAE Engineer for 1D Propulsion System simulations you will perform simulations of all types of propulsion systems in the Volvo portfolio. Currently this includes internal combustion engines and e-machines. Traditionally the bulk part of the work has been related to IC-engines and the gas exchange processes within these, but now also oil system and thermal management related simulations of both IC and electrical engines are within the scope for this role. Your primary working tool will be the software GT-Suite.

The work will be carried out both independently and in teams. You will be expected to present your results at regular meetings as well as in written reports. Within your area of responsibility, you will lead the project deliveries as well as method development. You will be responsible for keeping your area at a state of the art level and for keeping procedures and documentation of methods up to date.

There is an ambition in the team to rotate among the specific areas of responsibility, thus providing an opportunity to learn different aspects of engine related simulations.

Working with 1D simulations of the engine will give you a very good sense of the engine as a system and you will have the opportunity to build an extensive network, which will be a good basis for further career development within Volvo Cars.

Do you fit the profile?
To succeed in this role, we expect you to have a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Automotive Engineering, Applied Mechanics or similar. You should have work experience with 1D fluid dynamical simulations in the industry and experience using GT Suite.

Experience from product development, using 1D CFD simulations and/or using gas exchange simulations in the industry, will definitely help you in your daily work. Scripting skills, particularly in Python, will also be an advantage. Experience using any of the following software's will be seen as meritorious:
* AMESim
* StarCCM+
* Ansa
* ModeFrontier
* Helyx
* Preonlab

As a person, you have a strong ability to communicate and to convey results in a structured and understandable way. You are team oriented and willing to contribute to the atmosphere as well as the deliverables from the team. You take responsibility for project deliveries and method development. We also believe that you are self-motivated with a strong drive for personal development, as well as a strong sense of responsibility and willingness to take part in defining personal goals and development needs.

Application and contact!
Does this sound fun and like the next step in your career? We apply a continuous selection process so we recommend that you submit your application in English as soon as possible, but no later than the 31st of January 2019. Note that we do not accept applications via e-mails.

As we use our own channels for recruitment, we respectfully but strictly decline to be contacted for any offer of recruitment assistance from external companies.
