CAE Engineer - Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Powertrain Concept & Advanced Engineering has the leading role for the Powertrain unit deliveries in concept phase and technology development for Advanced Engineering. The main task for the section is to lead, analyse and develop concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems including hybrid systems in the next generation of Volvo Car vehicles.

The group Propulsion System CAE is responsible for analysing concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems in Volvo Car Group vehicles. We perform CAE simulations for the properties drivability, emissions, performance and powertrain energy consumption and we are now looking for a new colleague to simulate performance and fuel economy for hybrid electric vehicles.

As a CAE Engineer you will be responsible for hybrid drivetrain models both for model development and for model verification. You will support decision making with analysis and concept evaluation, support control development and drivetrain calibration. Model development and simulation in our in-house developed simulation platform is also among the main responsibilities. The CAE Engineer will play an important role in all project stages in the development of new hybrid drivetrains.

Main responsibilities

* Develop and verify powertrain models mainly for hybrid electric drivetrains
* Simulation of powertrain attributes with focus on energy consumption, performance, driveability and emissions
* Support powertrain system design engineers, attribute leaders and advanced engineering projects with powertrain attribute estimations
* Support concept work with simulation and calculations for sizing of powertrain components
* Find optimal control strategies as input to control design and drivetrain calibration

Required qualifications

* M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent
* Experience from Matlab/Simulink
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
* Driving license B
* Experience in model development and model calibration is meritorious
* Good knowledge of energy consumption for propelling a vehicle is meritorious
* Experience of control system development is meritorious
