CAE Engineer - Combustion System CFD

As CAE ENGINEER - COMBUSTION SYSTEM CFD you will work within the group Engine CAE which is responsible for advanced technical calculations and a part of the Engine Development department at Volvo Cars. The area includes Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), structural analysis (FEM) and other types of mechanical analysis. Analyses are performed on different system levels such as complete powertrain, complete engine and engine components. The overall purpose is to develop attributes, dimensioning components and virtually verify different technical solutions.
You will perform calculation based analysis on the engine combustion system using CFD. The analyses are carried out with the software STAR-CD, STAR-CCM and ES-ICE. The position gives the opportunity to understand and analyse one of the core areas of an internal combustion Engine, namely the combustion system itself. The main part of the work is in early development phases when the combustion system is developed as a base for the subsequent development. We are looking for someone who is analytical and has a genuine interest in advanced technical calculations and highly developed methods. The work will be carried out both independently and in teams. As the role will implicate a broad span of contacts you should have a strong ability to communicate and to convey results in a structured and understandable way.
Job profile:
• CFD analysis of intake and exhaust ports
• CFD analysis of combustion chamber
• CFD analysis of combustion process including heat release and spray formation
• Evaluation of results
• Report results
• Issue recommendations
Your profile:
• M. Sc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Chemistry or Engineering Physics
• Well developed skills in advanced computer aided analysis
• Experience of CFD analysis using a commercial software such as STAR-CD, STAR-CCM, Fluent or Fire
• Fluent in English, spoken and written
• Communicative and self-driven
• Experience of performing CFD analysis on internal combustion systems using STAR-CD and ES-ICE is meritorious
• Knowledge of spray and combustion analysis is an advantage
