Powertrain Concept & Advanced Engineering has the leading role for the Powertrain unit deliveries in concept phase and technology development. The main task for the section is to lead, analyse and develop concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems including hybrid systems in the next generation of Volvo Car vehicles. The group, CAE Powertrain strategy and concepts, is responsible for analysing concepts and system solutions for propulsion systems in Volvo Car Group vehicles. The group is working with CAE simulations for the properties drivability and performance and powertrain energy consumption.
As CAE Engine Engineer you will work with modelling, concept evaluation, component sizing and optimal control of engines including EATS system (EATS = Exhaust AfterTreatment System). The work will be in close cooperation with technical specialists at engine department, EATS department and the CAE engine engineer at our group. You will also do model development, maintain existing models and do simulations in VSIM, our simulation program for performance and energy consumption in complete powertrains and vehicles. The responsibility of the CAE Engineers in the VSIM team is to build and verify models and simulate attributes for new powertrain concepts models. You will have an important part in the early stages of projects actively contributing to creating robust and environmental friendly engine concepts for the future.
Main responsibilities
• Develop new models focusing on engine emissions
• Develop or incorporate exhaust aftertreatment models to be able to simulate tail pipe emissions
• Simulation of powertrain attributes with focus on energy consumption, performance, driveability and emissions
• Support concept work with simulation and calculations for sizing of EATS components
• Method development for modelling and optimization of EATS-system
Required qualifications
• Master of Science in, Chemical, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Good knowledge of the physics of engines and their exhaust aftertreatment
• Experience of thermal management
• Experience from Matlab/Simulink
• Experience and good knowledge from model development and model calibration
• Good knowledge of energy consumption for propelling a vehicle
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Experience of simulation of performance and fuel consumption in Simulink, GT Suite, AVL cruise or equivalent systems is meritorious
• Experience of algorithm development in control systems is meritorious
• Experience of development of engine controls- or diagnostic-systems in the Automotive industry is meritorious
