The primary goal of the Buying Director is to lead and facilitate the creation of products that deliver value to both customers and the business. The Buying director is responsible for the "why" of the product and what to buy next.
The role reports to the CEO of the company.
The Buying Director will ensure that the fashion brand is delivering balanced, cohesive and commercial fashion ranges throughout all channels within the business This will involve working closely with the Creative Director, the Brand Director and other senior members to ensure that essentially B2C and B2B offering delivers on profit.
Responsibilities:
Lead and plan development of long-term business strategies based on industry trends and competitive analysis;
Ensure to be in line with business objectives and make adjustments when necessary;
Set directions on how to reach sustainability objectives and measure company's results extensively;
Develop and manage assortment and pricing strategy to meet financial targets;
Trade intelligence and analysis, including consulting CTO on new BI developments;
Manage vendor relationships for the purpose of improving margin, leading operational process improvements, and financial planning for the various categories and vendors. Setting code of conduct and compliance requirmeents. Lead strategic negotiation events (CLR) in partnership with Finance;
Ensure that each stage of the product life is progressing on time, on budget and to the right quality standards;
Lead the team of several departments, including: purchasing, product development and quality assurance. Oversee on time deliveries of Influencers and PL collections;
Ongoing coaching and development of team members to manage individual performance and create a team environment that delivers results;
Attend trade fairs, shows and demonstrations to research new sustainable product lines and vendors
Essential Requirement:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Merchandising/Business/Economy;
3+ years work experience in a similar role within the retail and fashion industry;
Experience in a start-up is essential;
Expert knowledge of sustainable product manufacturing;
Proven experience of working on-site with overseas factories to build strong supply chain and meet supplier compliance targets;
Must possess proven leadership skills including leading projects, recruiting, developing and motivating teams
Passionate about product sustainability, environmentally-friendly manufacturing, and zero-waste and closed-loop philosophies.
A data-driven individual with a curious, entrepreneurial mind set;
Be innovative and constantly challenging and questioning existing ways of working and coming up with sustainable and viable solutions;
Proven track record of delivering KPI results
Able to work under pressure and tight deadlines
