Description
Working as a block leader engineer requires both specific technical "know how" within the specific area and management skills to handle the trade-offs.
Since its the best technical solution we search for and a balanced compromise of the total vehicle specification.
• BL (Block Leader) has the Package team management role within their applicable vehicle Block (package zone).
• BL is responsible for the concept and system development/geometric integration across the development units, product design and manufacturing within their Vehicle Block.
• BL is responsible for all programs within their package zone.
• BL shall secure the delivery of 100% feasible vehicles at the applicable milestone with respect to complete vehicle geometric integration ensuring the correct product target balancing is met.
• Reports to Director of vehicle concept and geometry integration
Tasks
• Producing reports to highlight concept/packaging issues and progress
• Liaising and leading solution resolution with component engineering and suppliers to reach solutions to design problems
• Prioritising and managing personal workload to ensure packaging objectives and timing is met
• Definition, development, and layout of the applicable vehicle package area From Program start to Final Data Judgement.
• Generating and issuing of technical input to the design team
• Ensuring the vehicle package complies with the appropriate homologation/product requirements.
• Ensuring that packaging guidelines are implemented and adhered to.
• Developing and proposing concepts/solutions to design and package issues
• Maintenance of applicable layout areas within the packaging data structure.
• Responsible for highlighting and communicating conflicts between components to vehicle package team leader and component area representative.
Project Deleverables
• Producing reports in applicable forums and Gateways to highlight concept/packaging issues and progress
• 100% feasible and integrated vehicle from a geometric perspective.
• Hard point criteria, package/concept layouts and sections.
• Compatibility and feasibility tracking documents
• Liaising and leading complete vehicle issue resolution with module / component engineering and suppliers
• Managing and planning block team workload to ensure packaging objectives and timing is met

• Instrument panel
• Centre console
• Pedal box and foot wells
• Front seat
• Front rocker area
• Windscreen interface
Qualifications
• Min 10yrs, preferably OEM experience, within vehicle integration/packaging/design studio support positions including team lead function.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and prioritising skills.
• Excellent knowledge of all stages and deliverables of the typical vehicle development process.
• Excellent knowledge of all aspects of developing concepts and defining criteria/attributes at a complete vehicle level from initial framing through to serial release.
• Good broad knowledge of all vehicle components ,systems and manufacturing processes
• Flexible, motivated, Creative, Pro-active and able to drive issues through to a balanced resolution.
• Has good working knowledge of PC tools e.g. Power Point, Word & Excel
• Good knowledge of CATIA V5, Vis mock up, and team centre at OEM level
• Good knowledge of written and spoken English
• BEng/MEng in Automotive preferred.
