Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The University has 40 000 students and 7 400 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

MAX IV is a national large-scale research laboratory providing scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with instruments for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.

The Science division is divided into a number of supporting groups and three scientifically oriented groups, Imaging, Diffraction and Scattering, and Spectroscopy.

These groups are further divided into teams based on beamline or scientific technique. Each team has the task to develop and support the instrumentation and scientific activity at the different beamlines. The aim is to maintain and develop state of the art equipment at stable operation.
You will be part of the Bloch team at the Bloch beamline. The beamline is split into two branch lines specialized to angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SPIN). The beamline is constructed with a cPGM monochromator with a NIM option, sourced by an elliptically polarizing quasi-periodic undulator. The main instrumentation at the ARPES end station is a ScientaOmicron DA30L analyzer with an online ScientaOmicron VT-STM. The SPIN end station is still under construction and will be equipped with a SPECS Phoibos 150 analyzer and a 3D-VLEED detector, expected to be operational by 2020.

You will be involved in the commissioning of the new beamline and end stations, including all its instrumentation. As well as be actively involved in setting up a user support function at the beamline. In this role your work and responsibility will be;

- Taking part in commissioning of new beamline and end stations
- Performing and planning maintenance during operation
- Participating and driving development of new equipment
- User support and training of visiting researchers
- Taking an active part in the research projects

Qualifications:

- Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in physics or related discipline
- Working with ultra-high vacuum
- Experience in Spin and Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy
- Experience in Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy
- Experience of working in a synchrotron environment
- Experience of user support at a beamline in operation
- Data analysis and computer skills, using tools such as Python, Igor Pro or similar
- Ability to work both unsupervised and in a team
- Must be fluent both in written and spoken English.

Meriting Qualifications

- Mechanical and electronics skills
- Software and hardware integration skills
- Concrete and clear ideas of research and/or developmental projects that you would like to undertake that would benefit a newly opened beamline
- Ability to join the group on short notice
