LTH forms the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, with approximately 9 000 students. The research carried out at LTH is of a high international standard and we are continuously developing our teaching methods and adapting our courses to current needs.

The Department of Physics is with a staff of about 350 scientists and educators one of the largest departments within Lund University. There are seven research divisions and a number of research centra within the department. The research activities at the department cover a broad spectrum of modern physics. www.fysik.lu.se/english .

Introduction
The research at the division of Solid State Physics is focused around different aspects of semiconductor physics, ranging from materials science to quantum physics, to different applications including bionanotechnology and biophysics.

The division leads the major interdisciplinary research environment within nanoscience and nanotechnology at Lund University - NanoLund. Lund Nano Lab is a central key facility for fabrication of material and devices on the nanoscale. The division is also heavily involved in the undergraduate education, especially within the "Engineering Nanoscience" program.

During the past ten years we have significantly expanded our micro- and nanofluidics capabilities at the division. Here our main research objective is to develop simple devices and procedures for sample preparation, diagnosis and biophysics for applications in biomedicine and biology. Specifically we have developed label-free sorting schemes based on novel parameters such as shape and deformability with precision that exceeds what is currently achievable using conventional technologies. Furthermore, we have developed different types of devices for handling and imaging of chromosome-length DNA as well as for labeling of the DNA.

As an example of ongoing projects we lead an Initial Training Network financed by EU within FP7 with 14 partners from industry, academia, clinics and non-governmental organizations engaged in developing and applying label-free particle sorting for medical and biological questions. In addition we take part in a Horizon 2020 project where the main task is to use our nanofluidics approach to directly visualize DNA for diagnostics and genomics in bacteriology and cancer.

Recently we have received funding to acquire an optical super resolution microscope that will constitute an enormous opportunity to bring our own research forward and as well be useful for several groups across the university.

Job Assignments
The researcher will take part in the research and perform research tasks in terms of experimental work as well as data analysis and writing of publications. Furthermore, a key task is to train and guide users of the equipment, and help users with microscopy and microfluidics, specifically training in micro- and nanofabrication including making of photomasks.

An important responsibility is to maintain and adapt the equipment and the labs that are associated with the nanobiotechnology and biophysics activities to maximize the benefit to the users.

For the cases when the defined tasks overlap the topics of courses given at the division, the researcher will be welcome to take part and assist in the teaching activities.

A specific responsibility is to manage and maintain the STED system and to welcome and train external users.

Requirements
The applicant must have a PhD in physics or a related field, and several years of hands-on postdoctoral experience with microfluidics, optical microscopy and cleanroom work. Extensive fundamental knowledge in these fields is essential to the position.

In combination with the experimental knowledge it is required to have capabilities for precise in-depth understanding and interpretation of results of applications of these technologies for different types of biomedical and biological questions. In addition, experience with various aspects of cleanroom work with relevance for microfluidics and nanofluidics is essential. The applicant should be able to perform experiments in international and national collaborations with researchers in other fields or research areas. Teaching experience is valued favorably. In addition, experience of management and maintaining research labs is a desirable qualification.

Experience in managing and supervising student projects is valued highly with an ability to coordinate in a structured manner. A service minded attitude is absolutely required together with an ability to work independently and take initiatives. Good knowledge of written and spoken English and excellent communication skills are essential.

The selection of the successful candidate will be based on the requirements indicated above and the ability to cope with the challenges outlined in the anticipated assignments. This includes both proven skills and expected performance, not least in terms of the ability to work independently and to formulate and solve scientific questions.

Application procedure
A complete application includes a cover letter, a CV documenting all experience relevant for this position, and a complete list of publications.

Lunds universitet välkomnar sökande med olika bakgrund och erfarenheter. Vi ser jämställdhet och mångfald som en styrka och tillgång.
