Bioinformatics Scientist/ Computational Biologist

We are now recruiting a Bioinformatics Scientist for a consultant assignment. You will be employed by Proffice Life Science and will work at AstraZeneca in Mölndal. The role will work to provide and apply best practices for Bioinformatics and Network Biology to the understanding of disease and cellular processes. You will work with colleagues in the cross-disciplinary Computational Chemistry & Computational Biology group within AstraZeneca's Respiratory & Inflammation unit to support our projects with expert analysis of biological data-sources and biomedical text. An important requirement of the role is to organise and analyse multivariate data from biological experiments (e.g. microarray data).

Job Purpose:

Independently deliver expert computational biology component of projects and strategic initiatives with high levels of productivity in both well worked and poorly precedented scientific areas. Proactively obtain leading edge knowledge, use literature and other forums to provide scientific leadership so that up to date information is contributed to the design, reporting and interpretation. Collaboratively work to introduce and support new technologies and innovations within iMED and the team.

• Work collaboratively with disease scientists, biologists and medicinal chemists to support projects with network biology, pathway analysis and biological data analytics.
• To devise, champion, develop and support the application of Bioinformatics into all aspects of drug discovery (including TI/TV, TSRES to LORES projects, Translational Sciences)
Accountabilities:

• To perform Computational Biology / Bioinformatics work within the team to support effective hypothesis generation and decision-making.
• Visualize, analyze and model biological data across networks and pathways and support projects with analysis and integration of complex high-volume datasets such as expression analysis.
• Extract, integrate and analyze biological and compound information from external and in-house clinical, experimental and literature sources to model biological processes.
• To ensure their own work meet high scientific standards as well as share and adopt AZ best practice. Ensure that records management complies with AZ standards.
• To ensure all aspects of their role is carried out with due diligence and in accordance with Corporate Responsibility policies and guidelines.
• To ensure their own work and/or any collaborators (including third party suppliers) is conducted in accordance with local and global/site Safety, Health and Environment requirements.
Functional knowledge:

• A Ph. D. degree in a relevant scientific discipline with a broad understanding of human biology and drug discovery. Experience with translational science and inflammatory biology as well as support of drug discovery projects through the use of computational biology including bioinformatics and statistical analysis is a strong asset.
• Experience in modeling biological processes and predicting functional outcomes including with integration of clinical and pre-clinical data. Experience in collation and analysis of high volume / high complexity data such as RNA expression data desired.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills with documented programming experience (Matlab, R/Bioconductor, Perl, Pipeline Pilot and/or Python). Knowledge and experience using relational databases (SQL) and semantic integration (SPARQL / KQL). Knowledge and experience with text-mining tools desired.
• Experienced in the integration of in silico biology and experimental data - network biology (Textmining, IPA, GeneGo/MetaMiner, Cytoscape and public resource) is a strong asset.
