Are you a dedicated and curious Bioinformatician or Data Scientist? Would you like to join us in discovering unprecedented opportunities afforded by advances in data availability, computing power and AI to improve the way we discover and develop medicines?

We see you as our new Bioinformatician in the Early RIA Translational Science & Experimental Medicine (TSEM) department. You will join an agile environment, with a culture that is science and patient-focused. Our mission is to understand disease mechanisms at the molecular level, identify the most effective target and the right patient population, and close the gap between bench science and bedside clinical practice. You will be located in one of our three main HUB's - Gothenburg, Cambridge or Gaithersburg.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, you will get the opportunity to construct and use knowledge graphs (KG) to impact drug discovery and development in respiratory disease. You will be applying machine learning and data science to enable translational science via the integration of omics, clinical, real world evidence and literature data. This will drive disease understanding, patient and disease segmentation, and enabling translation to clinical outcome.

Your accountabilities will include:

* Maximize the impact of available data through providing scientific leadership of ML/AI/DS
* Lead and champion the application and adoption of ML/AI methods, especially through establishing and use of respiratory KGs, applied to translational research
* Drive the RIA Data Science team's scientific reputation by identifying and progressing publication opportunities internally, across AZ and/or together with external partners
* Ensure effective use of available platforms while providing RIA specific input to global strategic informatics and data science initiatives
* Provide key input to RIA Data strategy, applying both to the generation of data appropriate for ML/AI and aspects of data analysis

Essential Requirements

We expect you to be a scientific expert, have outstanding team working skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively. You have a strong publication record and excellent communication and presentation skills.

* PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, engineering or similar
* Track record of applying ML methods such as random forests, SVMs, penalised regression, clustering, dimensionality reduction in a systems biology or systems medicine context
* Demonstrable deep knowledge of at least one of the following areas: deep learning, natural language processing, Bayesian methods (probabilistic programming, Gaussian processes)
* Programming proficiency and experience with relevant software tools such as R, Python and MATLAB, version control (Git/Bitbucket), and databases (SQL as well as NoSQL)
* Working in a Linux environment, with experience of cluster or cloud computing (e.g. AWS or Azure)
* Proven skills in network biology or causal inference techniques

Desirable Requirements

* Experience from pharmaceutical R&D
* PostDoc experience or otherwise relevant data science research experience
