hela Sverige Respiratory is one of AstraZeneca's main therapy areas. Our aim is to transform asthma and COPD treatment through inhaled combinations at the core of care, biologics for the unmet needs of specific patient populations, and scientific advancements in disease modification.
To further strengthen our expertise and capacity in each of these research areas we are currently recruiting world-class scientists to join our team. Do you want to contribute to a science-driven organization, hungry for new ideas and innovative ways of working? Are you ready to explore what science can do?
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The RIA Target & Translational Sciences department is an agile environment, with a culture that is science and patient-focused. Our mission is to understand disease mechanisms at the molecular level, identify the most effective target and the right patient population, and close the gap between bench science and bedside clinical practice.
This role covers key aspects that enable translational science: integration and multiscale modeling of different 'omic data to drive patient segmentation, identifying and proposing biomarkers that demonstrate target engagement and guide dose selection and predict clinical outcome. Furthermore, you will be accountable for providing state of the art analyses in these areas of network biology. The role requires a strong scientific background as well as excellent technical skills. You will also have outstanding team working skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively to ensure scientific excellence and delivery to projects.
The seniority of the role will be adapted to suit chosen candidates' background and experience.
Accountabilities and responsibilities:
* Identify putative novel drug targets from multi-omic data sets utilising network modelling and machine learning
* Identify patient endotypes within respiratory diseases through disease module generation utilising large cohort multi-omic data sets
* Employ network biology techniques to build project specific pharmacology maps from heterogenous data
* Identify and propose project specific biomarkers that reflect target engagement, predict clinical efficacy and improve patient selection
* Propose and analyse patient derived multi-omic data collected from respiratory disease studies
* Predict functional effects of rare variants utilizing e.g. structural biology and gene regulatory networks
* Work compliantly and with high ethical standards with patient level data
* Interact with other members of the Data Science function to validate knowledge extracted from big omics-datasets through robust biomarker analysis in human tissue
* Drive innovation and scientific excellence in Target and Translational Science through internal scientific development and external collaborations
* Work collaboratively with other teams within and outside of the IMED RIA
* Ensure visibility by publishing scientific papers and presenting data at conferences
Essential Requirements
We expect you to have a strong drive to apply analytical techniques to experimental data and collaborate closely with others to take advantage of knowledge and experiences. We believe you have a background in basic science, ideally related to respiratory research.
* PhD or equivalent within a relevant field
* Track record of delivering state-of-the-art Bioinformatics insight to projects in discovery, development or an academic setting
* Technically expert in Bioinformatics/Data Science. May include but not limited to in silico biomarker analysis, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics and analysis of broader NGS datasets
* A solid understanding of respiratory disease biology
* Experience in multivariate statistics and machine learning
* Excellent skills in hypothesis forming and testing, able to draw conclusions and suggest next steps based on the experimental data
* Experience in integration of multiple types of omic data
* Experience in structural bioinformatics
* Strong publication record
* Deep understanding of the drug discovery and development process, from target identification through clinical trials
* Excellent collaborative and networking skills
* Great written and oral communication skills
Desirable Requirements
* Post-doc experience or otherwise relevant scientific research experience
* Experience in pharmaceutical R&D
