Beskrivning av verksamheten
MAX IV Laboratory, a part of Lund University, has operated successfully for more than 25 years and is currently building the new MAX IV synchrotron facility in Lund.
More than 900 scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world are coming to the MAX IV Laboratory every year to use the x-rays produced by our electron accelerators. They do research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry, and nanotechnology. 150 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory. The MAX IV facility, the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in research infrastructure, will be the brightest source of x-rays worldwide and will replace the existing laboratory, which today consists of the storage rings MAX I, II and III.
We are looking for a Beamline Scientist.

Dina arbetsuppgifter
Currently 13 beamlines are funded and under construction at the MAX IV laboratory. In order to strengthen the teams working with two of these - the soft X-ray SPECIES and VERITAS beamlines - we are now seeking to hire three beamline scientists with strong profiles in soft X-ray synchrotron radiation instrumentation and research. The SPECIES beamline is in the final stages of construction and commissioning at the MAX II storage ring and is expected accept outside users from the autumn of 2014. During 2016 it will be dismounted and moved to the new 1.5 GeV storage ring at the MAX IV facility. The VERITAS beamline is under design and early stages of construction and is expected to open for outside users in the summer of 2016 at the 3 GeV storage ring of the MAX IV facility, . In the design and construction phase you, as beamline scientist at SPECIES or VERITAS, participate in the design, installation and commission of the specific beamline and its endstations according to the established organization for beamline buildup at MAX IV Laboratory. In the operations phase you share responsibility for operation and user support, maintenance, and further development with the teams of scientists and engineers that will be built up around each beamline. You are expected to develop your own research and development projects within scientific areas relevant to the beamline. The MAX IV Laboratory strongly encourages collaboration between beamlines and with our user community during the construction as well as the operations phase. We therefore expect you to also develop and drive collaborative research and development projects with other beamlines and with the user community. Together with our users and your colleagues at the MAX IV Laboratory you will facilitate world leading research at the world's most brilliant light source. Depending on your background you might also be considered for the position as one of the group managers within the line organization of the MAX IV Laboratory. A group manager has responsibility for personnel, working environment, budget, and information within the assigned line-organization group.

Önskvärda kvalifikationer

You hold a PhD or equivalent in physics, chemistry or a field of similar relevance for the beamline. You must have a visible scientific profile in a research field central for the particular beamline you are interested in and a good knowledge of soft X-ray spectroscopies in general. You must have documented experience with buildup and maintenance of experimental equipment and specifically soft X-ray spectroscopy equipment at a synchrotron radiation facility. You must have documented experience with support of user groups at a synchrotron radiation facility. You have specific documented experience and knowledge, depending on the beamline of your interest, in: 1. SPECIES / HP-XPS branch: Photoelectron spectroscopy in general and specifically photoemission experiments under near-ambient conditions, surface science and spectroscopy, sample environments and analyzers relevant for near-ambient -XPS 2. SPECIES / RIXS branch: Resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering on gaseous, liquid and solid samples, instrumentation, in particular spectrometers for low energy RIXS and versatile sample environments 3. VERITAS: Resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering on gaseous, liquid and solid samples, instrumentation, environments for samples under different conditions You have excellent command of English, very good communication skills, and good team working skills. To be considered for the line-organization group manager position it is a merit if you have documented experience of having responsibility for personnel, working environment, budget, and information within an organization.
