We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
Your team
NanoMAX is currently the only hard x-ray nanoprobe beamline at MAX IV.
It is primarily designed for imaging and scattering experiments that require a focused coherent beam to achieve ultimate resolution, such as ptychography and coherent diffraction imaging. Secondly, the nanofocused beam also provides prime spatial resolution for scanning diffraction and fluorescence mapping experiments.
Your role
We are now looking for a temporary researcher with a background in (coherent) scanning probe-based x-ray techniques to join the NanoMAX team. Together you will ensure optimal operation of the beamline and its two end-stations 'Diffraction' and 'Imaging' for users and your own experiments. You will take an active role in running the beamline alongside the team, as well as have a chance to pursue your own project at the beamline.
Main work tasks
- As part of the team, you will actively help maintain and run the beamline, the end-stations and data processing tools, as part of the NanoMAX team, with a primary focus on one of the end-stations, depending on your expertise
- You will support your share of users during the planning, setup, and execution of experiments, and discuss development of eg. user sample environments or analysis code for nanoprobe experiments
- As a scientist, you are ready to perform scientific research or nanoprobe method(s) development that fits to the NanoMAX beamline and promote your results within the (prospective) user community and at conferences.
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- PhD in natural sciences in a subject relevant to NanoMAX
- Demonstrated knowledge of experience with nanoprobe scanning and/or coherent techniques using X-rays
- Good Python programming skills, a working knowledge of collaborative software tools, and experience with the implementation of data acquisition or analysis algorithms
- You have a good track record of published articles in peer reviewed journals highlighting findings from your research and experimental activities
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Good command of English, good communication skills, and you have to be a good fit within the existing team.
Qualifications below are seen as merits
- Experience in instrumentation development, including timing, novel optics, in-situ environments, cryogenics, nano-positioning and/or scanning set ups
- Experience in x-ray fluorescence mapping, diffraction and/or tomography on other length scales.
As a person you are interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative research and able to work effectively with research groups of very diverse backgrounds as well as engineers and technicians.
What we offer
When you join our MAX IV team, you step into a world of front edge science. We make the invisible visible by supporting scientist from all over the world, generating scientific results for the benefit of society. We offer you a multicultural work environment with great opportunities for personal development with respect for a healthy work-life balance.
Would you like to work in a challenging and supporting environment? Then join us and take the opportunity to make a real difference!
This is a temporary position until December 2026.
Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis as applications come in.
