MAX IV Laboratory, a part of Lund University, has operated successfully for more than 25 years and is currently building the new MAX IV synchrotron facility in Lund. More than 900 scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world are coming to the MAX IV Laboratory every year to use the x-rays produced by our electron accelerators. They do research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry, and nanotechnology. 170 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory. The MAX IV facility, the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in research infrastructure, will be the brightest source of x-rays worldwide and will replace the existing laboratory, which today consists of the storage rings MAX I, II and III.
We are looking for a beamline scientist in XAFS spectroscopy
Job assignments
Beamline I811 is a general purpose materials science beamline based on a super-conducting wiggler source at the 1.5 GeV MAX II storage ring at the MAX IV laboratory in Lund, Sweden. The main experimental techniques at the beamline are XAFS spectroscopy and x-ray surface diffraction. It covers a wide range of applications in chemistry, material science, environmental science and geochemistry.
You will contribute to daily operation of I811 beamline with focus on XAFS spectroscopy technique at the MAX IV laboratory. You are expected to give assistance to external users at the beamline and support users in designing and optimizing experimental setups, data collection and analysis strategies for XAFS spectroscopy studies within a wide range of scientific areas.
Development of your own research project is highly encouraged. You will have the opportunity participate in collaborations with a very active XAFS spectroscopy community.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold Ph.D in Chemistry, Physics, Geology or related area. Strong background in XAFS spectroscopy and user experience from a synchrotron light source is a requirement.
