hela Sverige Gemkom Engineering and Machinery Filial is a newly established branch of the Turkish company Gemkom. It is a leading engineering and manufacturing company that operates in a number of areas and in various ways within the steel industry.
We are participating in a project where Stegra AB establishes a steel mill in Norra Svartbyn in Boden where steel will be produced through an almost fossil-free process using hydrogen gas. Our mission is, among other things, to install machines used in steel production and includes work in mechanics, electronics and plumbing.
We now want to employ a Banksman. The work tasks may include but are not limited to:
Position Summary:
The Banksman shall be responsible for directing and controlling the movement and operation of high-tonnage cranes and associated lifting activities within the steel production facility or project site. The role ensures that all crane operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations, project lifting plans, and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Crane Operation Guidance:
Direct and coordinate the movements of high-tonnage cranes and associated vehicles within designated operational areas.
Communicate clearly and effectively with crane operators using approved hand signals, radios, or other authorized means of communication.
Safety Assurance:
Ensure all lifting operations are carried out in accordance with the approved lifting plan and method statement.
Verify the integrity of lifting gear, slings, and other accessories prior to commencement of operations.
Maintain exclusion zones and ensure unauthorized personnel do not enter operational areas.
Coordination and Control:
Liaise closely with crane operators, riggers, supervisors, and other site personnel to ensure smooth execution of lifting activities.
Assess site conditions and load paths prior to lifting to avoid collisions, obstructions, or unsafe ground conditions.
Halt operations immediately if unsafe conditions are observed and report such incidents to the Lifting Supervisor.
Compliance and Documentation:
Adhere strictly to company safety policies, project-specific lifting procedures, and local regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate records of lifting operations, safety checks, and daily activity logs as required by the project.
Training and Competency:
Ensure valid certification and competency for Banksman duties as required by national legislation or project standards.
Participate in toolbox talks, safety briefings, and refresher training sessions as mandated by the employer or client.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Banksman or Signalman in heavy industrial environments (steel, oil & gas, or construction sectors preferred).
Proven experience with high-tonnage cranes (200 tonnes and above).
Valid Banksman / Slinger certification in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent).
Strong understanding of lifting plans, load charts, and rigging practices.
Comprehensive knowledge of HSE regulations, including ISO, OSHA, or local safety codes.
Core Competencies:
Excellent situational awareness and communication skills.
High level of attention to detail and safety consciousness.
Ability to operate under pressure and in dynamic, high-risk environments.
Team-oriented with strong coordination and decision-making abilities.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Responsibilities:
The Banksman shall:
Always wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Immediately report unsafe acts or conditions to supervision.
Promote a strong safety culture within the lifting operations team.
Comply with all site-specific HSE management systems and procedures.
