We are looking for an Automotive Regulatory Expert (ARE) to join our Quality and Customer Satisfaction (Q&CS) organization. As an ARE you have a unique opportunity to get in touch with the latest technology within the company and connect with people working directly with it. Quality and Customer Satisfaction (Q&CS) is a dedicated global team that challenges the Volvo Car Corporation organization to exceed customer expectation. To make this happen, Q&CS provides all parts of the company with tools, methods, processes, targets and audits that are relating to quality and customer satisfaction. One of the branches on the Q&CS tree is Automotive Regulations and Compliance (ARC). ARC's mission and goal is to ensure that Volvo Cars products meet all global product regulations. Volvo Cars core values are safety and environment and within this scope ARC is participating actively in the dialogue on future requirements and regulations through collaboration with various stakeholders in our business environment.
One of the departments within ARC is Regulatory Affairs (RA), which is responsible to bring in knowledge in the field of product related environmental requirements. Compliance with these environmental requirements is a prerequisite for Volvo Car to be able to sell cars on a global market. To support this mission, the RA Environment department, is responsible for monitoring, interpreting, summarizing and communicating regulations and development of future regulations on major areas such as: regulated tail pipe emissions and fuel economy requirement, noise, materials, chemicals substances, recycling and after market requirements.
Main responsibilities
As an Automotive Regulatory Expert (ARE), you will monitor the auto industry's environmental technical requirements and the development of these, such as the prevention technology for fuel economy, exhaust emissions, chemical substances and noise. Part of the Automotive Regulatory Expert (ARE) responsibility is to represent Volvo in national and international automotive rulemaking bodies and automotive industry trade organizations within markets such as EU, North America, China and UNECE (The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe). Within this framework, you will be requested to do some traveling. As an Automotive Regulatory Expert (ARE) you will also support with knowledge activities performed by local regulatory representatives on markets such as Japan, Korea and South America as important examples.
Examples of responsibilities will be to:
Monitor, summarize and distribute information regarding current and future regulations and requirements within the area of environment regulations.
Inform the Volvo organizations of current and future regulations and requirements within the area of environment regulations.
Keep the Volvo Legal requirements database up to date with relevant legal requirements on all applicable markets.
Support the organization with interpretations of future and current regulations and requirements within the area of environment regulations.
Represent Volvo and lead Volvo positions as a subject matter expert in relevant working groups for your subjects internally and externally.
In this role you will interact with many functions both internally and externally. You will also collaborate closely with various areas within R&D, responsible for technology strategies and target setting. Regulatory Affairs Environment, also works closely with Volvo Cars Governmental Affairs (GA) to understand and represent Volvo's established positions and strategies. You will also have a close dialogue with Volvo's strategy- and marketing managers, as well as sales companies around the world that are important for our knowledge collecting ability.
Required qualifications
Master of Science or equivalent within for example Mechanical, Environment or Chemical engineering.
Fluent in both spoken and written English. Swedish knowledge is good to have.
Background in the field of environmental subjects and regulatory analysis.
Background in the field of emission prevention technology.
Strong leadership skills.
Experience working with SAE standards, or any other standard, is a merit.
Good knowledge in all Microsoft Office applications, intranet/internet.
Willing to travel.

Having an ability to quickly organize, manage both people and information and distribute tasks to solve the issues in need of investigations, are key factors in this role. You enjoy working with different cultures and in close collaboration with key partners internally and externally. Having strong communication skills is very important in this role and you easily express yourself in writing, speaking and in presentations. Since you will be leading different cross-functional project groups, you are also motivated by inspiring and encouraging others.
