The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering offers unique, collective research expertise in civil and structural engineering. The research subject Structural Engineering is now seeking a highly motivated associate senior lecturer contributing with research and education in structural engineering.

The Research Subject has as mission to preserve, transfer and create knowledge in structural and fire engineering domains and has three goals. First to educate students in structural and fire engineering, second to research and develop methods to prolong the life length of existing structures and third, to research and develop structural design methods to promote circularity in construction industry.

Duties
We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our academic team as an Associate Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering. You will be responsible for teaching and conducting research in the area of structural engineering, with a focus on the design and analysis of reinforced concrete and composite structures. You will be expected to develop and deliver courses related to your expertise, as well as contribute to the supervision of graduate students in related research projects. Other duties will be to publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at conferences and to participate in the development of research proposals and securing external funding. You are expected to contribute to the academic and administrative duties of the department, including student advising and service on departmental committees.

Qualifications
Eligible to be employed as an assistant senior lecturer is a person who has completed a doctoral degree in Structural Engineering or a related field or has a foreign doctoral degree that is considered to correspond to a doctoral degree.

In the first instance, those considered for employment should have completed a doctoral degree no more than five years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. By special reasons is meant leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust, or similar circumstances.

The following assessment criteria are applied for the position:

Other assessment criteria:

• A strong research record in the area of structural engineering, with a focus on reinforced concrete, composite structures and use of FRP for strengthening, as evidenced by high-quality publications in top-tier journals and conference proceedings
• A demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in structural engineering, with a focus on reinforced concrete and composite structures
• Experience in supervising graduate students in related research projects
• A track record of securing external research funding is desirable
• A track record showing the ability to carry out work from a research idea to inovation is desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in conducting experimental and analytical research related to the use of FRP materials for strengthening of structures
• Experience in conducting research related to the dynamic response and load-carrying capacity of railway bridges, particularly concrete arch bridges
• A strong background in corrosion and fatigue analysis of structural materials
• A strong background in numerical modelling using non-linear finite element techniques

Period of employment
For this employment, an employment period of four years applies.

Promotion to senior lecturer
An assistant senior lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to senior lecturer and a position until further notice. If the applicant is qualified for a position as senior lecturer and in an examination is deemed suitable for such a position, is determined in accordance with the assessment criteria set out below.
