Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment
The Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment seeks to describe, evaluate and inform about the status of the environment, how that status changes over time, and the causes of those changes. The research is aligned to three main areas: geochemical and hydrological processes, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, and environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. The department houses well-equipped research laboratories for chemical and biological analyses. The campus area (Ultuna) is located in Uppsala, 35 km north of Stockholm Arlanda international airport.

Subject area
The subject covers organic, environmental chemistry with focus on aquatic micropollutants and with applications aiming at reducing human and environmental exposure of hazardous organic substances. The subject does not include effects of exposure.

Duties
The Associate Senior Lecturer shall develop her/his own research line in within the subject area. This field of research entails:

• increased understanding of sources, distribution and processes of organic micropollutants
• environmental assessment with focus on human and environmental exposure of hazardous organic substances
• trace analysis methodology for organic micropollutants in water using liquid chromatography coupled to advanced mass spectrometry

Research is expected to be done in close collaboration with colleagues at the department and SLU, as well as through national and international collaborations.

The holder of the position is also expected to:

• apply for external research funding and publish scientific papers
• initiate the development of his or her own research group
• participate in postgraduate education as a co-supervisor
• teach at basic and advanced levels
• contribute to the department 's environmental monitoring and assessment (EMA) work
• receive pedagogical training
• communicate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders

The Associate Senior Lecturer is expected to meet the requirements for promotion to Senior Lecturer during this tenure track position.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD or have equivalent academic qualifications. Priority will be given to candidates who have received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no longer than five years before the application deadline. Other candidates may also be considered if there are extraordinary grounds for doing so. Extraordinary grounds refer to illness, parental leave or similar circumstances.

For employment as Associate Senior Lecturer, the candidate must be scientifically proficient within the subject of the employment.

Good ability to communicate in written and spoken English is required.

Assessment criteria
On consideration for appointment, emphasis is primarily put on the applicant's scientific skills in the subject area. Special attention will be paid to the applicant's specialization in analytical chemistry with focus analysis of organic micropollutants using mass spectrometry.

Furthermore, the assessment includes evaluating the applicant's ability to develop an independent line of research within the subject area, and to qualify for promotion to Senior Lecturer during the employment period.

Good abilities to collaborate and communicate is an advantage and emphasis will be paid to the ability to work across several of the department 's research areas. Furthermore, teaching experience is considered a merit.

After the qualification requirements, emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and personal suitability.

Form of Employment
The employment is limited to four years in accordance with the Higher Education Act. A position as associate senior lecturer is a qualifying employment that constitutes the first step in an academic career at SLU. An associate senior lecturer has the right during his or her employment to apply for promotion to senior lecturer on the basis of criteria established when the position as associate senior lecturer was announced.
