Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is University West's overarching profile and basic principle applied to learning, the exchange of ideas, and educational development. The government has assigned the distinguished task of developing WIL to University West. Work integrated learning in education and research develops new, relevant and advanced knowledge both within the academy and among its partners, which also benefits society in general. University West offers a wide variety of study programs, has a good number of applicants and the students show a high entry rate on the labor market. The main research environments at University West are Production technology, Learning in and for the new working life and Child and youth studies and is conducted in collaboration with the surrounding society. Campus is centrally located in Trollhättan with about 12,000 students and about 600 employees.



Tenure Track Position as Associate Senior Lecturer in Automation with a focus on Flexibility and Control
Production Technology West (PTW) has been a prioritized research environment at the University since 2008, with an emphasis on development of production processes in the manufacturing industry and has grown from just a handful of researchers at inception to nearly 90 researchers, PhD students and other technical staff at present.

Currently, the vibrant research portfolio at PTW spans the areas of Industrial Automation, Machining, Welding, Thermal Spraying and Additive Manufacturing.

Automation and control of production are an important part of production technology to ensure high productivity with the right quality. University West has been pursuing successful research in the field of flexible industrial automation for several years. The focus on research is mainly AI, multi-agent and simulation-based methods to configure, program and optimize industrial production.

Duties

The position includes teaching, research and administration. Teaching duties include course responsibility, course administration and supervision of master and PhD students within the area of the position. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with the rest of the research group and industry in ongoing research projects with a focus on flexible automation. Part of the research work is to be able to conduct experiments using advanced state of the art demonstrators. Results will form the base of publications in international journals, as well as to the project reports. An important duty is to participate in the development of the department and new research applications together with the industry. The work will mostly be carried out at the Production Technology Center.

Qualifications

Those qualified for the position as an associate senior lecturer are persons who have obtained a doctoral degree or achieved equivalent competence within production technology with a specialization in flexible automation. Applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or achieved the equivalent competence in five years or less prior to the end of the application period will be given priority.

The employment also requires:

- Documented ability to teach in Swedish and/or English is a requirement unless special reasons prevail. The holder is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years.
- A requirement is that the applicant must possess the personal capabilities necessary to fully carry out the duties of the appointment in collaboration with the rest of the group.

The following skills will be considered meritorious:

- Documented teaching at advanced level in courses, e.g., automation and PLC programming, programming and simulation of industrial robots, multi-agent control, AI and production simulation.
- Automation research that includes formal methods, AI, multi-agent, PLC IEC 61131-3, optimization, simulation, code generation, safety and restart.

Assessment criteria/ranking

Special importance will be given to scientific skills in the subject field. In addition, the degree of administrative proficiency will be assessed, as well as the ability to take responsibility for and undertake teaching in the existing master's program "Robotics and Automation", as well as in postgraduate studies with regard to the subject. Furthermore, the degree of skill in developing and leading activities at the university will be considered, as well as the ability to interact with the surrounding community and to inform about research and development work.

Terms of employment

The position can be held for a maximum of four years. An associate senior lecturer can apply for promotion to senior lecturer. If the candidate is deemed suitable and fulfils the criteria for promotion established by the Faculty Board he/she shall be promoted to and employed as senior lecturer. Such a promotion implies a permanent position as a senior lecturer.
