Associate Senior Lecturer in Atmospheric Physics

Associate Senior Lecturer in Atmospheric Physics at the Department of Meteorology. Reference number SU 612-3037-12. Deadline for applications: January 31, 2013.

At the Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University (www.misu.su.se) we conduct research and education in four main areas of atmospheric sciences and oceanography: Atmospheric physics, Dynamic meteorology, Physical oceanography and Chemical meteorology. In all these areas there is a strong focus on the climate and on processes important for the climate and its development. The department is the largest meteorological department in Sweden and was initiated by the renowned meteorologist Carl-Gustaf Rossby in the 1950?s. Today the department employs some 75 individuals, of which about 25 are scientists and almost 30 PhD students. The department is also a part of the Bolin Centre for Climate Research (www.bbcc.su.se) that ties it together with three other departments at the university in an endeavor to cover most of the important aspects of the climate system.

Subject
• Atmospheric Physics? as defined here include studies of the stratosphere, mesosphere and lower thermosphere, the coupling between these, as well as the coupling to the climate system as a whole.

Main Tasks
Research, and to some extent teaching and supervision.

Qualification requirements
A person who has been awarded a PhD, or a qualification from another country that is considered equivalent to a PhD, is qualified for employment as an associate university lecturer. • documented experience of combining experimental and modeling activities
• documented experience of working with processes coupling the stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere

Additional information
An associate senior lecturer is employed for 4 years. The employment can be extended to 6 years maximum, if there are special reasons, such as leave of absence because of illness or parental leave.

An associate senior lecturer can apply for promotion to a tenured position as senior lecturer. Assessment criteria for promotion are decided by the Faculty of Science.
