Department of Clinical Sciences
The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for undergraduate education, research and postgraduate training in the scientific fields of veterinary medicine, animal care and animal science. The department's activities mainly concern our common Swedish domesticated animal species (pets) with a focus on anaesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, animal care, epidemiology, experimental animal science, surgery, clinical chemistry, medicine and animal reproduction.

Subject Area
Animal nursing in anesthesia and intensive care is the study of care before, during and after surgical and diagnostic procedures requiring anesthesia, analgesia or intensive care. It also includes knowledge of the function and operation of related medical equipment. At the Department of Clinical Sciences, the subject concerns cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, dogs, cats and rabbits.
Duties
The position is limited in time (4 years) in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance. A position as Associate Senior Lecturer is a merit-based position that constitutes the first step in an academic career at SLU. The Associate Senior Lecturer will develop his/her own research profile within the subject. The research is expected to take place in close collaboration with researchers within the department and the rest of SLU, as well as through national and international collaboration. An Associate Senior Lecturer has the right to apply for consideration for promotion to Senior Lecturer during their employment based on the criteria established in connection with the announcement of the position of associate senior lecturer.
In addition, the holder of the position is expected to
• apply for external research funding in competition and publish scientific articles
• serve as co-supervisor of PhD students
• planning, developing, teaching and examining theoretical and practical elements at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level.
• actively participate in clinical work and teaching
• undergo pedagogical training
• collaborate and communicate with relevant stakeholders in the society
• have Swedish as a working language within two years.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as Associate Senior Lecturer are candidates who hold a PhD or have equivalent academic qualifications. Priority will be given to candidates who have received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no longer than five years before the application deadline.
The applicant must
• be scientifically competent in the subject matter of the position
• have a Swedish veterinary nurse license or be eligible to obtain one upon application in accordance with current legislation, regulations and directives*.
• have a good knowledge of English.
• Act (2009:302) on activities within animal health care ch. 3. Qualification rules, the Swedish Agency for Agriculture's regulations and general advice on qualifications for animal health personnel (SJVFS 2016:9) ch. 2. Qualification as a veterinarian, as well as European Parliament and Council Directive (2005/36/EC) of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment as an Associate Senior Lecturer shall be the degree of the research expertise required as a qualification for employment.
In addition, the applicant will be assessed by
• the ability to develop an independent research profile in the subject of the employment
• the ability to meet the specific criteria established as the basis for promotion to Senior Lecturer within the framework of the merit-based position.
• experience in both theoretical and clinical teaching at undergraduate level
• experience in communicating research and development work.
It is an advantage if the applicant has documented current clinical experience with patient responsibility.
