The subject of the position is animal ecology and includes both basic and applied issues relevant to the subject area. The focus of the research is on the ecology of small mammals (voles, rats, etc.) and how they interact with humans, especially with regard to risks of spreading zoonoses in different parts of the world. The research is part of the concept of "one health" which aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. The concept includes interdisciplinary research where both animal and human behavior is studied.
Duties
The associate senior lecturer/assistant professor shall develop her/his own research line in the field of animal ecology.
In addition, the holder of the position shall:
• act in accordance with the vision, goals and basic values of SLU
• apply for external research funding in competition and publish scientific articles
• initiate the development of his/her own research group
• participate in postgraduate education as a co-supervisor
• teach at basic and advanced levels, including at postgraduate level
• collaborate closely with researchers within the department and other parts of SLU, as well as nationally and internationally
• build and further develop networks with the surrounding society, nationally and internationally
• disseminate research findings, and
• receive pedagogical training, and are expected to fulfill the requirements for promotion to senior lecturer during the employment.
Non Swedish-speaking staff members are expected to, within four years of first being employed, have sufficient knowledge of Swedish/Scandinavian to understand information in Swedish.
Qualifications
Eligible for employment as associate senior lecturer are candidates who hold a PhD or have equivalent academic qualifications. Priority will be given to candidates who have received a PhD or equivalent qualifications no longer than five years before the application deadline. Other candidates may also be considered if there are extraordinary grounds for doing so. Extraordinary grounds consider leave due to illness, parental leave or similar circumstances.
For employment as associate senior lecturer, the candidate must be scientifically proficient within the subject area of the position.
Good ability to communicate in written and spoken English is required.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employment shall primarily apply to the degree of such skills that are a requirement for eligibility for employment. In the examination for employment as associate senior lecturer, emphasis is placed above all on qualitative indications of the applicant's scientific skill.
Research experience of the ecology of small mammals, as well as the spread of zoonoses between animals and humans, is particularly meritorious.
Experience of interdisciplinary methods and participatory approaches is meritorious, as well as international experience of studies in different parts of the world.
Furthermore, the assessment includes evaluating the applicant's ability to develop an independent line of research within the subject area, and to qualify for promotion to senior lecturer during the employment period.
Communicative skills and the ability to work broadly across several of the division's and department's areas of activities are meritorious.
Collaborative skills and experience in administration and teaching are meritorious.
The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is assessed to be most suitable to carry out and develop the above-mentioned duties and to contribute to the positive development of the organization.

The employment is limited to four years in accordance with the Higher Education Act. A position as associate senior lecturer is a qualifying employment that constitutes the first step in an academic career at SLU. An associate senior lecturer has the right during his or her employment to apply for promotion to senior lecturer on the basis of criteria established when the position as associate senior lecturer was announced.
