hela Sverige The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
The Associate Researcher will be part of a research group at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center (
http://cancercenter.gu.se/research/helena-caren). The group is interested in epigenetics and its role in development of diseases such as cancer. As a model system we use cancer stem cells that we isolate from brain tumours and also normal neural stem cells.
The Associate Researcher will be involved in the DNA methylation analyses in the group and in routine analyses. The person will also handle ordering, preparations of solutions etc. Handling of biological material from surgery, establishing primary stem cell cultures and culturing of these will be included in the tasks, as could performing individual research projects.

Long documented experience in cell culture, several routine methods in cell- and molecular biology such as immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR and handling of tissue from surgery, is a requirement. Knowledge in methylation analysis with MeDIP, and ddPCR is strongly meriting, as is isolation and analyses of ctDNA.
