Here at AstraZeneca, we are working towards turning novel state-of-art technologies into effective medicines for severe genetic disease. Do you want to be part of this effort focusing on Gene Editing-Primed Insertions? Welcome to join our exciting journey!

As our new Associate Principal Scientist, you will be a part of the Department of Genome Engineering. The role is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, where you will join an international team that develops genome engineering technologies and applies these technologies for generation of cell and gene therapies. We provide a stimulating environment for innovation and application of genome engineering tools, to turn them into effective and safe medicines.

We continually push the boundaries of science to deliver medicines that treat diseases across our main therapy areas.

What you will do:
In this role you will focus on Gene Editing-Primed Insertions - and you are expected to bring your scientific expertise and innovative thinking to develop novel genome editing tools and applications that can potentially lead to therapies. You will play an important part in our cross-functional therapeutic editing project teams with various backgrounds and expertise, where you will be responsible for gene editing strategies.

Your accountabilities as scientific lead will include the development of novel genome engineering technologies to facilitate gene insertions, developing relevant assays, analyzing the gene editing outcomes, documenting, interpreting, and communicating results to appropriate partners. Additional accountabilities:

* Collaborate with other functions to develop and test novel CRISPR delivery strategies
* Collaborate with colleagues to develop next generation sequencing approaches to analyze gene editing outcomes
* Mentoring and supervising junior colleagues and postdocs

Essential for the role:

* PhD degree in molecular/cell biology, genetics, or relevant areas.
* 4+ postdoctoral experience or company equivalent with demonstrated ability to develop novel genome editing tools.
* Strong molecular biology skills and good knowledge of in silico molecular biology tools.
* Experience in cell biology and cellular assays, such as genetic manipulation of cell lines, primary and iPS cells and evaluating genetic & functional outcomes.
* Broad multidisciplinary experience and meticulous scientific knowledge.

We also believe that our new colleague is a person who thinks outside the box and find innovative scientific approaches and who holds enthusiasm and curiosity towards scientific questions and learning new skills. You can work in an independent and goal-oriented way, but you also enjoy team work and have the ability to communicate and collaborate in a global setting with cross-functional groups.

Desirable for the role:

* Experience with next generation sequencing methodologies and data analysis.
* Experience in flow cytometry/FACS.
* Hands on experience with RNA and protein quantification methodologies, such as RNA-seq, MSD immunoassay etc.

Why AstraZeneca?
If you are passionate about translating scientific advances into real next generation medicines, AstraZeneca is the right place for you. Join the team for unlocking the power of what science can do. You have the potential to grow yourself, our pipeline, and positively impact the lives of billions of patients around the world.

What's next? If this sounds like a good opportunity to you - welcome to apply! Send your application as soon as possible, but no later than 10th April, 2022.
