We are recruiting an Associate Principal Scientist in the Cellular Reagents team in the Discovery Biology department within Discovery Science at AstraZeneca, Gothenburg site.
You will join the Discovery Sciences organisation, working within a vibrant scientific environment to support drug discovery. We are part of Innovative Medicines & Early Development (IMED) and push scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides as well as other emerging technologies, always with a view to providing medicines to improve patient care. The Discovery Biology department of Discovery Sciences is responsible for the generation of novel reagents and assays to support projects in the drug discovery pipeline from target discovery all the way to clinical candidate.
The role as Associate Principal Scientist, Cellular Reagents provides an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join us in a lab-based position. You will use cutting-edge technologies to deliver customised reagents to various projects, with a key focus on providing impactful cellular tools. These will be utilised for identification of novel drug targets, for compound screening assays, as well as validation and characterisation of candidate targets and compounds. You will collaborate with projects in several disease areas, particularly in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (CVMD), as well as respiratory, inflammation and auto-immunity (RIA).
Main duties & responsibilities
* To be a lab-based cell scientist delivering cellular reagents to support drug discovery projects largely within the CVMD and RIA disease areas
* To provide expertise in the area of cell line generation and characterisation
* To work in partnership with colleagues across Discovery Sciences, disease areas and global sites to ensure delivery of high quality cellular reagents to projects
* To implement work plans based upon agreed timelines such that project objectives are met, including delivery of parallel work streams where appropriate
* To be an effective member of project teams, contributing novel ideas and using judgement, experience and knowledge to positively influence the project work
* To maintain an awareness of current developments in the field by keeping updated on scientific literature, and contributing to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities in the project and workplace

Essentail Requirements
* PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or equivalent scientific discipline.
* Significant and relevant working experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
* Expertise in mammalian cell culture including demonstrable experience in primary or induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) culture and single cell cloning
* Expertise in cellular engineering, with demonstrable knowledge of gene editing techniques (such as CRISPR/Cas9, TALENs, etc) and associated validation strategies (PCR, RT-PCR, Fragment Analyser and sequencing analysis, Western blotting)
* Good problem-solving skills, scientific judgement and communication skills
* Excellent team working abilities and networking skills with experience interacting effectively across teams
* Excellent English, both spoken and in writing
Desirable requirements
* A practical understanding of molecular biology technologies as applied to cell science such as NGS-based methods (e.g. amplicon sequencing and chromosome-capture) and flow cytometry
* Experience in 3D mammalian cell culture
* Experience in mammalian cell co-culture
