Cardiovascular Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) is one of the three main therapeutic research areas within AstraZeneca which deliver candidate drugs into clinical development. CVRM Bioscience Metabolism department has a dynamic environment that fosters collaboration and innovation. We are a team of professionals who are passionate about advancing science, to discover and develop novel therapeutics that will benefit patients suffering from diabetes, obesity, liver disease and dyslipidaemia.
The position will be within the CVRM Bioscience Metabolism in vitro Team at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden.
What you'll do
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Associate Principal Scientist (APS) to take a leadership role in a drug discovery setting with a focus on developing medicines for the high medical need in metabolic disease. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of theoretical and practical expertise and demonstrate a passion for driving scientific research through teamwork.
This role requires working cross-functionaly to enable successful delivery of our research pipeline.
A significant proportion of your time will be hands-on in the laboratory using your creativity, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills to impact the direction of research.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Working as an Associate Principal Scientist, you will contribute to the discovery and validation of new targets, championing and leading the bioscience aspects of the programs. Your preclinical research expertise will contribute to programs on which multiple modalities will be investigated.
Essential for the role
*
Ph.D. with >3 years of research experience in an area relevant to metabolic disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity or liver disease
*
Ability to independently drive experimental design and deliver results for pipeline projects
*
Excellent communication and presentation skills
*
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills within a team environment
Desired for the role

Experience in drug development in pharmaceutical or biotech industries
*
Experience leading bioscience element in drug discovery setting
